Decent!
Revisado: 04-03-25
Solid story. I was interested in the continuation of what happened after the Thrawn trilogy and Dark Empire. Not quite as robust as those, but still fun.
The reader did a good job, but unfortunately, he’s no Marc Thompson.

Do you want to know a secret? Marketing stinks. I have a feeling you might agree. In fact, odds are that when you started your business, you didn't start it because you wanted to get involved with marketing. You were good at something or had something to sell, and you wanted to do it for yourself. And now marketing feels like one of those necessary evils you just can't get away from. But you know what? You're not alone. And...there's hope.

Ordinarily, I’m a bit speculative about an author reading their own book, but Jon Wenzel did a great job. He was engaging, winsome, & very funny.
To the content itself:
I work for two non-profits & have a very small business of my own. To that, I read this for the specific purpose of considering how to better market all 3 of these. Impressively, one of the main things I walked away from with this work with was not just a new appreciation for marketing and how to do it - but a set of solid organization and management insights. As a manager/organizational leader, I have significant appreciation for this.
The author, as a business owner, employs a set of business practices as he markets that result in a sense of confidence in what he writes. It is evident he believes and practices his recommendations.
As such, if you need help with marketing, I’d recommend this book (and the authors company). If you’re also looking for a set of wise business practices you can distill, I’d recommend this book as well.

Solid 4.7 out of 5. *Surprisingly* good.
Revisado: 07-09-23
Out of the gate - anything Star Wars not read by Marc Thompson is a steep hill to climb. And I’m a TLJ hater to boot. I make no apologies here.
Yet - Luke in his prime was great. The lurking edges of the Sith was very welcome. Some character development for a maturing Lando was fun. I was surprised & would happily read this book again when it’s not fresh on my mind.
I gave the story 4 stars & everything else 5. Reason-being - it started weak. The opening chunk on “the family” (spoiler free here) was a slow enough start I walked away from it for a few days when I first started it. And Lando’s arc & development, while welcome, seemed kinda hollow. I appreciated & enjoyed it, but it was just…missing something. But that’s it. So those knocked it .3 for me. Not bad.
The strengths were Jedi Master Luke, the self-reverential shout outs to other Star Wars lore (easter eggs for those who catch them), well written dueling, & the ties to TRoS to help settle the shifty ground it rests on.
Recommended.

Solid conclusion to Phase 2
Revisado: 06-22-23
Cavan Scott delivered a punching, action packed conclusion to phase 2. It filled in the gaps in & around the rest of the Phase, & brought a lot together.
I enjoyed that it was 90% focused on the Path itself, & the rest was characters that Scott had previously written. It created a sense of continuity that some of the others writers of the Phase missed not being some intimately familiar with THR as Scott is.
Definitely a book I’ll go through again. Recommended.

Historia
After five years of conflict, the planets Eiram and E’ronoh are on the cusp of real peace. But when news breaks of a disaster at the treaty signing on Jedha, violence reignites on the beleaguered worlds. Together, the royal heirs of both planets—Phan-tu Zenn and Xiri A’lbaran—working alongside the Jedi, have uncovered evidence that the conflict is being orchestrated by outside forces, and all signs point to the mysterious Path of the Open Hand, whom the Jedi also suspect of causing the disaster on Jedha.

Excellent
Revisado: 05-20-23
Overall - this is a SOLID outing in THR, & rivals Convergence as best written book of THR Phase 2.
Two criticisms:
- Unlike other outings in THR, I was painfully aware of the absence of information other story-venues were filling in (various comics). This has not been so apparent in other works, and yet was painfully so in this one.
- Axel Greylark. The writer of this work did not capture the fullness of his backstory that was evident in Convergence. It’s like they didn’t know whole details of his backstory. He was a genuine fighter& apt at survival in a fight. This book missed that entirely. Axel was a much paler version of the much more richly developed character he was in the previous book.
Still - overall, excellent.

Very enjoyable & good character development
Revisado: 02-20-23
I have enjoyed The High Republic era of Star Wars. It is a breath of fresh air to the common themes of the galaxy, and quite an enjoyable ride. Given the age that this particular book is pointed at, as an adult listener, it was still very good for development & forward progress of the whole era.
If you are a completist, you will enjoy this book. If you want to give older adolescents, or teenagers and easy on-ramp into the Star Wars universe, this would also fit the bill as well.

Excellent book. Worthy installation of Star Wars: The High Republic
Revisado: 10-21-22
I have thoroughly enjoyed THR era, & the beginning of phase 2 did not disappoint.
While the book started off, what *seemed* slow, was quickly validated by the sheer volume of detail the book gave was tying it to phase 1 in the latter chapters.
Lots of fun payoffs. High recommended as a part of a chronological read through of all of Star Wars: The High Republic.
That said - if you’re interested in a clean jumping on point 150 years BEFORE phase 1 - this creates that opportunity as well!

Among the finest “theology of sex” works available
Revisado: 01-03-20
The Audible performance was very good at multiple speeds.
This is among the finest books on sex available. It provides a needed theological superstructure of thought, & gives the reader free range to cultivate personal application.
The “questions for review” at the end of each chapter were spot on and targeted at the heart.
As a counselor, this is absolutely a book I will use for between session HW. I proactively recommend it to all.
