Stephen Oakwood has emerged victorious against the schemes of his aristocratic family. Now he finally has the opportunity to do what he’s been wanting to do for a long time: track down his father. But doing so won’t be easy. Stephen’s not so isolated any more, but the contacts he’s making in the magical world—everyone from the corporation he works for to the mother he’s just beginning to reconnect with—all have agendas of their own. Excellent second addition to this series
Revisado: 11-23-24
I absolutely love the realistic, down to earth nature of Stephen (MC). This poor kid has been chewed to bits by the powerful people in his life, but he hasn’t given up. Watching his skills grow has been amazing and I look forward to seeing him discover the truth about his potential and his decision about what to finally do with his Power.

What an EXCELLENT collection of stories!
Revisado: 02-21-22
These stories were excellent! Ray Porter was phenomenal, as usual, but it was the substance of these stories that really left it’s mark. Whether I was cheering on “Wiseguys” with a true concept of Family or feeling proud of everyday citizens who chose to battle Monsters, these stories gave me a much needed mood lift. 👍👍👍

Jane used to hunt vampires, but now she’s their queen. She’s holed up in the mountains with the Yellowrock Clan, enjoying a little peace, when a surprise attack on her people proves that trouble is brewing. Someone is using very old magic to launch a bid for power, and it’s all tied to the place where Jane was first drawn into the world of Leo Pellissier - the city of New Orleans. Jane is compelled to return to NOLA because someone is trying to destabilize the paranormal world order. And because she now sits near the top of the vampire world, the assault is her problem.

Another Excellent Story in this Series!
Revisado: 10-23-21
This was another excellent story in this series! This wrapped up one of the major questions that we all had (concerning Leo) and it continued to expand upon Janes new powers and abilities. I love how Janes family has developed over time and how the characters have grown (Alex has grown into a BadAss!). My only complaint is the wait until the book. You won’t be disappointed.🥰

Excellent but DARK!!
Revisado: 10-03-20
This book definitely redeemed the first half of this story. This second half had all of the action, mystery, humor and sadness that we’ve all come to expect from Harry’s life.
I laughed and I cried (HARD). Jim Butcher is definitely back and he has not missed a single damn step.
Be aware that this book is DARK. It has all of the action, humor and yes, terror, that we’ve come to expect from The Dresden Files but the world that Harry lives in ain’t CandyLand. I’m NOT happy with one major development in this story. It’s a huge spoiler so I will not reveal it.
Now, I guess I’ll go back to waiting on the next book.👍🏾👍🏾

Rather incomplete considering how long it’s been😡
Revisado: 08-05-20
The story SO FAR seems good but considering that it ended IN THE MIDDLE of the conflict, I will have to withhold my final review until then.
Be Warned. This novel is less than half the size of previous stories by Mr. Butcher and there is a cliff hanger.
Times are hard I guess. I will wait for (and pay for) the rest of the book in a couple of months.

Historia
More than a year after she helped save the world from the Sparnaxian invasion, Andrea Vernon is in a good place. Her boss is giving her greater responsibility and she’s getting to travel a lot (although her fill-in is hopeless at making coffee); things could be getting even more serious with her 8’ 4” superhero boyfriend, The Big Axe; and she has a really fun new BFF, Never More. Small issue, though, with that last item - Never More is a supervillain bent on world domination, and it looks as if nothing can stop her.

A wonderful combination of ridiculousness and hilarity!
Revisado: 04-05-20
This book was EXACTLY what I needed during social distancing. The plot was fun to follow and the superhero names were fantastic! There we’re actually a few somber moments but the balance was perfect for the story. I can’t wait for the third entry.... so much so that I will forgive Mr. Kane for the cliffhangers at the end.
Oh! I have absolutely fallen in LOVE with Ms. Turpin’s narration! The stares from people when my headphones died and my phone seemingly shouted “KITCHEN SINK WILL FIGHT!” had me laughing so hard, I’m glad they didn’t send the men with white jackets!

Evan Smoak lives by his own code. Once he was known as Orphan X. Trained as an off-the-books government assassin and spoken about only in whispers, Evan Smoak was one of the most talented - and most feared - men in the Program. But he broke free and reinvented himself as The Nowhere Man, a figure shrouded in mystery, known for helping the truly desperate. If anyone is truly desperate, it’s Max Merriweather.

Wow! What a rush!!
Revisado: 02-08-20
This chapter of the Orphan C series was excellent, as usual. The action was even more non-stop than the previous stories. Every time you thought, “finally!, Evan has put this to bed!”, another situation was waiting. I enjoyed this novel and I will say this.... the ending was so much of a WTF!! moment, that I can’t wait to read (listen) to the next installment, if for no other reason than to see how on earth Mr. Hurwitz will dig himself out of the corner he seems to have written Evan into.😂🤣

Not perfect, but worth reading (listening).
Revisado: 02-02-20
My initial view of this book was NOT good due to it appearing to copy too many ideas from the Harry Dresden series. The author did lean rather heavily on the same premises as Dresden at first- (Down on his luck (Cunning-man/Wizard)investigator who takes on a case that is a lot more than he bargained for....-but the author did a good job of veering off and creating a uniquely good story. I enjoyed it. I would read it again and I will look for a sequel.

Another great (albeit unusual) read from J. Mayberry!
Revisado: 06-15-19
It took me a long time to purchase this book. I should’ve known better. If Jonathan Mayberry writes a story, it’s going to be a damn fun ride. This story had all of the humor, action and solid characters that I’ve come to expect from his books. I enjoyed it and I look forward to seeing where the next story leads!
