Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Deep and emotionally thick
Revisado: 11-17-24
Wow is all I can say as I just finished the audio book. Completely took me into the lives of young people on opposing sides of WWII and how they were dragged into it not knowing why. Humanizes the innocent victims on both sides. This book opened my eyes.

A Must Read
Revisado: 12-05-22
Leo Tolstoy again delivers a deep and meaningful message about people and their intimate relationships, how war can affect those, and what faith and character can achieve in the worst of situations. Extremely long but well worth it.

The Condition of Man
Revisado: 08-27-22
I’m so glad I attempted this novel again at an older age in life as now I could understand and comprehend so much more of the meaning. I see now why this novel has withstood over 200 years of time. A must read, or listen, but not at a fast speed. Tolstoy develops his characters and takes his time to bring the reader through a window into each of their lives, their conflicts with each other and within themselves. Through it one can gain moments of understanding in one’s own psyche, pull in or discard beliefs on the condition of mankind, and reveal to oneself an opening to understanding the meaning to life and where one’s faith in God lies, without judgement or pressure. Just a coming to terms with oneself.
