Leaders are Readers!
Revisado: 08-20-24
This book offers a concise yet powerful exploration of how reading can significantly enhance leadership skills and facilitate deep learning across any area of interest. The author provides practical tips on creating personalized reading plans akin to completing a Master's Degree, which can be customized and repeated at will. Personally, I found the advice invaluable and have shared it with many colleagues. Setting a goal to read 1,000 books over a decade, I've discovered that I've learned more through focused reading on topics of personal interest than I did during my formal education. This book is a transformative guide for anyone eager to expand their knowledge and leadership capabilities through the simple act of reading.

Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

This was an incredible story and well research. I didn't know the Radium Girls were the reason OHSA was established. The narration was great.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

The author provides some useful thought exercises and general life advice. This is good information for anyone that needs/wants motivation. It's a quick listen and the narrator did a good job. The narrator seemed to overemphasize some sections and the reading sometimes flowed inefficiently. I increased my listening speed a bit to compensate for it. Overall a good easy listen.

Mental Toughness

Historia
The concepts of mental toughness are simple to understand and, with the right mind set, are easy to implement. Richard Bond's aim is for you to take the understanding you gain from this book to train your mind, just like you would in any other discipline. Knowledge on its own is not enough; you need to practice. For example, you might know how to perform a bench press, but that alone won't allow you to bench 500 pounds. You need to train, rest, grow, and adapt over time to get to that level.

Very basic book on how important your mindset is for everything in your life; achieving goals, reacting to circumstances, general wellbeing, etc...
If you've read any other book on how important your mindset is you won't find anything new in this book. The main benefit of this book is how the information is condensed. In a 20ish minute read you have a good base of how important your mindset is to life. There is nothing new here and I wouldn't say this is a waste of time. I'd consider it a refresher on information already learned while living life. The narration was fine and I have no complaints.

Historia
When young Army Specialist Rodney LeClaire was sent to Afghanistan to fight for his country, he thought he knew what war entailed. He soon discovered all the things training did not prepare him for: feces covered toilets, 40mph nutshots, detached faces, pen stealing kids, pants eating goats, or friends getting killed. He battled the heat, the enemy, and ineffective leadership. All of that paled in comparison to the fight for his own humanity. Stay Calm shows a behind the scenes look at a combat deployment.

This book filled me with so many emotions; Laughter, Anger, Sadness, Happiness. The author's writing makes you feel like you are sitting together swapping stories. So many of the stories brought vivid images to my mind. So well written and narrated. Each story is about an aspect of the author's time in Afghanistan. He takes you on a journey with him through a deployment. Stories of missions, misadventures, pranks, jokes, and so much more. He writes with such humor and authenticity. Thank you Richard Dawson and Mrs. LeClair for helping get this out to the world.
If you are a Veteran you MUST read this book.
