Historia
"We daren't go a-hunting for fear of little men"—words from an old children's song, but to the residents of one Welsh village, it's more than just a nursery rhyme. A legend has been handed down through the ages, telling of an ancient mountain people, dedicated to evil, who were massacred by the villagers' ancestors 3,000 years ago. What does this folktale have to do with a man's recurring nightmares, the murder of a High Court judge, an outbreak of food poisoning, a strange road accident, and the death of a rock climber? Sir Marcus Levin is determined to find out.

I was expecting some form of folk horror, but instead I got…whatever this was meant to be.
It was unique. I’ll give it that.

Historia
For generations, the solar system—Mars, the Moon, the Asteroid Belt—was humanity's great frontier. Until now. The alien artifact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has appeared in Uranus's orbit, where it has built a massive gate that leads to a starless dark. Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artifact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core.

Meh…
Revisado: 02-27-24
So far the worst book of the series. The new characters are bland and forgettable. The crew of the Roci are barely in it. The plot doesn’t really seem to tie in to the overarching story of the series for the most part. Should’ve been a short story or novella in between the core books. Narration is fine. I’m giving it 3 stars because of how good the whole series is in general, but as a stand alone title it’s more like 2 stars. Battle through this one. The rest of the series is great. This book is an anomalous dud.

Paradise-1. Earth’s first deep space colony. For thousands of people, it was an opportunity for a new life. Until it went dark. No communication has been received from the colony for months. And it falls to Firewatch inspector Alexandra Petrova and the crew of the Artemis to investigate. What they find is more horrifying than anything they could have imagined.

A fairly redundant concept but decent enough if you like scifi-horror. However this books was marred with enough issues to kill the momentum of my interest in it. Firstly…it’s ENTIRELY TOO LONG. It should’ve been half the length. It meandered in its pacing through vast stretches of nothingness before something of interest would happen. The narration was also below average. I feel like it would’ve benefited from multiple narrators to better establish the multiple character’s viewpoints…but I digress. And we gotta talk about that “cliffhanger ending”. Look I get that it’s the first part of series and that there’s more to come. But this book literally just ends. No send off, no structural pay off. It just…ends. Literally with “To Be Continued”. It just felt like a cop out that greatly diminished my interest in this series moving forward. Not the worst book I’ve read/listened to, but I would highly recommend saving your credit and waiting for a deep sale.

I barely finished this book. The sample option exists for books like this. Trite and obnoxious.
