Historia
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: Humanity has conquered all those things and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life - and they are commanded to do so in order to keep the size of the population under control. Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe - a role that neither wants. These teens must master the "art" of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

Jaw dropping
Revisado: 12-10-23
If a book can make my jaw drop it’s a keeper in my book and this one had many of these moments. The beginning was a tiny bit slow to get things set up and other parts seemed glazed over like Rowan’s time after the girl went on the run but otherwise..loved it. It kept me on the edge of my seat and always guessing.

Historia
Sixteen-year old Georgia Boone sees evil, shadowy creatures in mirrors. They look like humanoid crows and stare at her with hungry red eyes. Recently, they’ve been whispering terrifying threats. Of course, no one believes her. When Georgia is sent to the UK's most prestigious mental health center, Brookwood Hospital, she is forced to face her fears and answer the question...Are the shadows real or is it all in her head?

Mixed feelings.
Revisado: 11-16-23
I liked the story overall. There were some big plot holes and some pretty expected “plot twists” Maybe not a good book for critiques but just for those that like to just enjoy the book.
Spoilers. I was sick through a good portion of this so maybe I missed it but Elijah was a 17 year old boy when he was sent to the shadow world- how in the world did the same clothes still fit him years and years later? No one is batting an eye at Georgia dating a grown man? Or did his body not age?
I am in the US so maybe that affected it but for the first half of the book I had a hard time dating this story line and that’s just my personal pet peeve.
Paul was straight up telling Georgia to use matches to kill the shadows and she couldn’t figure it out for the longest time. That bothered me. She was a smart girl so why wasn’t this more obvious to her? I felt this did her character a disservice.
It was pretty obvious that the doc was gonna be Elijah’s dad.
Was crash helmet Annie someone that got her soul sucked but managed to stay alive like Elijah?
I did like the story in general. It was a different story than I usually read.
