Historia
Most of us have instinctive evidence the world is ending - balmy December days, face-to-face conversation replaced with heads-to-screens zomboidism, a world at constant war, a political system in disarray. We hear some myths and lies so frequently that they feel like truths: Civilization is humankind’s greatest accomplishment. Progress is undeniable. Count your blessings. You’re lucky to be alive here and now. Civilized to Death counters the idea that progress is inherently good, arguing that the "progress" defining our age is analogous to an advancing disease.

Thought-provoking, but smells like cherrypicking
Revisado: 01-18-21
Super interesting view on... everything. The entire civilization. I am used to comparisons between this and that civilization, but this book examines the very idea of civilization in a though-provoking way.
However, after the dust settles, I could not help noticing some inconsistencies and things that (without being en expert) smell like cherrypicking. Equal roles to man and women? Open family structure? Complete tolerance? I am not sure how much this represents ALL forager societies at all.
Saying all that, the biggest logical inconsistency is for the author to somehow align the virtues of forager societies with the values of modern progressive political ideas - the same ideology that requires PC language control, big centralized government over family and local community, and so on. The progressive ideas rely MORE on big central governments and LESS on local family/tribe. I don't understand how he can even start making this argument.
In any event, it is eye-opening and super interesting. I would NOT count on it THE source, but rather as a starting point for further exploration, and as such, I would highly recommend it.

Historia
Thoreau's classic account of the solitary life, describing his attempts to simplify his life and sort out his priorities by living alone in a cabin beside Walden Pond for nearly two years, is one of the most influential books ever written. The bible of the environmental movement, Walden vividly portrays Thoreau's reverence for nature, and his understanding of the idea that nature is made up of crucially interrelated parts.

Good Text, Improper Narration
Revisado: 06-17-19
A beautiful text of observation, nature and contemplation. Unfortunately, the narrator sounds angry, which does not at all for the text and, in fact, makes it quite unpleasant to listen to.

It all makes good sense. However the information is quite basic and some of it is really trivial. Maybe good for someone that doesn't know anything about crowdfunding. For people who do they may still get if you're useful tips but that's it.

Historia
The author of the highly acclaimed Overdiagnosed describes seven widespread assumptions that encourage excessive, often ineffective, and sometimes harmful medical care. You might think the biggest problem in medical care is that it costs too much. Or that health insurance is too expensive, too uneven, too complicated - and gives you too many forms to fill out. But the central problem is that too much medical care has too little value.

Historia
There have been many books - on a large and small scale - about Steve Jobs, one of the most famous CEOs in history. But this book is different from all the others. Becoming Steve Jobs takes on and breaks down the existing myth and stereotypes about Steve Jobs. The conventional, one-dimensional view of Jobs is that he was half genius, half jerk from youth, an irascible and selfish leader who slighted friends and family alike.

Important point of view, mediocre narration
Revisado: 09-29-15
This book brings a fresh and important view on Steve Jobs professional life and evolution. It shows how he changed over the years, learning to use his natural born advantages while taming some of the less useful ones and how he became a great leader and manager through hard work and lots of learning.
Unfortunately the narration is not always fluent and it takes away some of the pleasure.

Historia
IBM is in serious trouble. Big Blue, as the company is known, tends to rely for its success on magical thinking but that magic ran out a long time ago. The company got in trouble back in the 1990s and had to hire for the first time an outside CEO, Lou Gerstner, to save the day. Gerstner pushed IBM into services with spectacular results but this hurt the company, too. As services have became commoditized IBM could only compete by offshoring the work and quality suffered.
