Historia
At the trial of Christ, Theophilus, brilliant young assessore raised in the Roman aristocracy, stands behind Pontius Pilate and whispers, "Offer to release Barabbas." The strategy backfires, and Theophilus never forgets the sight of an innocent man unjustly suffering the worst of all possible deaths - Roman crucifixion. Three decades later, Theophilus has proven himself in the legal ranks of the Roman Empire. He has survived the insane rule of Caligula and has weathered the cruel tyrant’s quest to control the woman he loves.

Historical fiction at its best.
Revisado: 06-17-14
I don't usually like historical fiction but this book was fascinating. The famous figures of history seen as children being educated by another famous scholar was delightful. You could see future personalities developing. There was conflict and action in the first chapter. This book kept the story moving, the intrigue going strong and never bogged down with historical facts. The character growth was believable and not overdone. A truly enjoyable book even without the historical framework.

Historia
FBI behavioral psychologist Daniel Clark has been made famous by his argument that religion is one of society's greatest antagonists. What Daniel doesn't know is that his obsessive pursuit of a serial killer - known only as "Eve" - will end in his own death at Eve's hand. Twenty minutes later Daniel is resuscitated, only to be haunted by those 20 missing minutes.

Dekker delivers another masterful thriller.

What did you like best about this story?
I loved how the story played back and forth between the ongoing FBI investigation and a future news story about the life and creation of the serial killer. It was a clever way to give background facts and even build some sympathy for the killer. The ending twist involving his sister was brilliant. I didn't see it coming.
Have you listened to any of the narrator’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This book was a challenge and the narrator did a masterful job of creating diverse and some truly creepy voices.

not bad if you fast forward through some parts.

What did you like best about The Knowledge of Good & Evil? What did you like least?
I loved the action and insights into history and beliefs that I hadn't known.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I felt a little soiled by the end of the book and listened to a nice Ted Dekker serial killer novel to relax. He is truly a fine writer and he knows his Bible when he uses it. Always an edge of your seat thriller.
Any additional comments?
I'm have a degree in Bible so I was probably more bothered by the many inaccuracies and misinterpretations of the Bible than others. The levels of hell and purgatory were a little hard to take and they were so long that I tried to fast forward about half way through. I was also bothered by the portrayal of God as petty and moody, giving up on mankind. The dwellers in heaven acted more mature than God. I had really enjoyed the book until the last trips through heaven and hell. And, please, why would you put Malcolm X in the level of heaven for peace? He and Gandhi would not have agreed that his methods made him a peace loving man. I did laugh at Stephen Hawkins on the scholar level, calling first dibs on an Archimedes scroll. I just hope that unenlightened readers will take this book for what it is, a work of fiction. I would hate for anyone to think that it is a true picture of heaven and hell.
