Possibly The Best Star Trek Ever

It’s a delight hearing AT finding ways to expand on this already bast and complex universe he has created. Our federation of strange alien friends (progeny?) goes on an adventure and it’s interesting, confusing, challenging at times, and so much fun. If you like (and miss) sci fi focused on exploration, discovery and understanding rather than shooting at aliens with lasers, planets or the laws of physics, you’ll feel right at home in this book.

Nothing too complex or groundbreaking, but just a lot of fun (if you are into space combat with sprinkling of “chosen one”). And the performance is fantastic.

I was really looking forward to a classic sci fi story, so I gave this series a shot, since so many people talk about it. It’s terrible. Characters range from cartoonish to utterly irrational. There’s so much exposition, most without any payoff. And overall, it’s just sooo boring.
It’s a specially hard read if you are not american. Because in the future, all “foreigners” are dumb brown idiots who can’t defend themselves and the army has go save them.

A Particularly Boring Take On The Pandemic Plot

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

More "Lost" than "The Martian", it's written for unapologetic best-seller listeners who... are not interested in well written books? I don't know, do you have a long trip and absolutely nothing else to listen and no access to any gaming platform and/or comic books? Do you need Stockholm syndrome to be shallowly explained to you?

What was most disappointing about A. G. Riddle’s story?

It's a long series of expositions of basic scientific concepts that lead up to a boring conclusion. After a poorly written reveal, you find yourself on a ridiculously improbable scenario that lacks any excitement or surprise. It is especially hard to listen because the quick chapters make it hard to focus on what is happening in the story and because you can tell that the narrator is trying so hard to make it exciting, but it's not.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Read a different book? The narrator is fine, he just doesn't have a lot to work with.

What character would you cut from Pandemic?

Everyone related to the main lovebirds. I'm not sure if there are any characters left after that, but those are probably fine characters in a book.

Any additional comments?

Don't listen to this this.
