Dislike the portrayal of PTSD

The way PTSD was portrayed is ridiculous as well as Nick’s response throughout the story. The portrayal of drug abuse is also terrible. Nick is not a “great guy”. He annoyed me the whole time. Making ultimatums is not supportive. Very disappointed with the book. The narrators were both great.

Good suspenseful story, characters problematic

This story is interesting and suspenseful. Overall I enjoyed it. The pacing was good, the story line generally okay and I liked the way it ended. I, personally, would not really call it scary, but there was plenty of tension and twists. The characters are the real problem here. I was more invested in some of the vignette characters than the main ones. Ultimately, I didn't really care if they survived. Almost all the women were portrayed as incompetent, whiny and overly emotional. They were a particular point of frustration for me and it marred an otherwise pleasant book.

Luke Daniels is always amazing - always.

I did not like this book for a couple of reasons. First, the female lead is a jerk. If the genders were reversed, people would be up in arms about her behavior. She’s basically knowingly taking advantage of a guy who is heal over heels for her. Second. I know autism is a spectrum and, in this case, Aspergers presents in many ways, but I did not care for the way it was presented here. It felt reductive. Unintentionally. I think the author intended sensitivity, and I am glad that the author chose to make the protagonist be on the spectrum. It just felt like the author decided which “quirks” the male lead was to have and then beat them into the ground.
Also, this is something that bothered me but did not affect the rating because it’s not exactly reasonable. Because this is an audio format, hearing their group called “the clan” over and over again was......uncomfortable. In print it’s probably less noticeable.

Not great now that I'm 40

Guys, this book would have been my jam 20 years ago. A smart but naive heroine. A broody, misunderstood hero. Sign me up! But, now that I'm 40 and an emotional grownup, I CANNOT stand this type of book and this book in particular. Our hero is a manipulative liar. Our heroine is not, in any way, smart. It is disappointing in every way except the narration. Jennifer Grace did a great job. Nothing about this is a healthy relationship. Our hero gets jealous of other guys before he indicates he has any intentions towards our heroine. That's unacceptable behavior. He manipulates her to get what he wants. He lies for most of the book. Our heroine takes forever to figure anything out and keeps caving because he's soooo hot. I kept waiting for him to get better. He does not. This book is neither smart nor romantic.

If you liked the other books, then you should definitely keep going. This is the hardest I've laughed yet. Although it is still filled with poop jokes, this installment of the Caverns and Creatures series has a lot of heart and character development. I highly recommend. If you haven't read the first 4, I recommend starting with the first book Critical Failures. Bevan also has collections of non-canon short stories which are an excellent way to try out the series.

Jonathan Sleep nails the narration as always. Seriously amazing. Voicing characters from halfling to half-orc and beyond with great skill.

This story was very odd. But if you are reading A. Lee Martinez, it's pretty standard. I enjoyed it. I did feel occasionally confused by the story-line. But I never felt the urge to stop listening to it. The confusion somehow added to the atmosphere of the book. I am glad I gave it a try.

I initially listened to this free from the library and like it so well that i bought it. It is so interesting! I learned many new thing about the plague. The narrative was less lecture and more like a story. I did not feel bored, bogged down, or overwhelmed once. I highly recommend.

These were great stories. I've read Jonathan Maberry before, but never any Sam Hunter series stuff. I loved it. I'm going to search out more. These stories had a very Jonathan Maberry feel. If you like his other writing, you will like this too. The stories also have that classic PI feel, so if you are into that, this is also a good bet. Ray Porter, as always, nails it.

These are a bunch a short stories in the Caverns and Creatures (C&C) book-verse. The premise is that a group of idiots get transported into the game world as their characters. Hilarity ensues. There are also full length C&C books about these characters. These short stories are separate from the main story line so you can read them to get a feel for the author without worrying about spoilers if you eventually want to read the main series. There are also 3 short story collections that came before this one. None of them are timeline or plot contiguous, so you can read them in any order. I highly recommend the short stories and the main arc. However, if you don't like poop jokes, walk away now. There is a lot of that kind of humor in all these books. That is not all that can be found inside, however. The stories are great. Fun and complete. You really get a feel for the characters, even in this short story format. I have read and listened to all the books in the series to date. The narrator for this series is great. He does such a great job maneuvering between the different personalities and races (halfling to half-orc). It is very enjoyable. I highly recommend all of Bevan's books for a good time. He and a bunch of other comedic fantasy writers also have a podcast where they hilariously play pathfinder. It's called Authors and Dragons. Check all of it out.

This is the eighth and last book in the Adrian's Undead Diary series. You will need to have read the others to enjoy this one. If you have read into the series this far, obviously you have to read this last book! The ending is great and also leaves room for more. Pretty exciting stuff!!

I have listened to this entire series (more than once). I have loved every book. The story line is great. Each book has small daily plots as well as an overarching plot making each book a complex mixture of ideas and emotions. The character development is fantastic. It is the apocalypse story that has a little something for everyone. Gun porn - check. Tactical discussion - check. Actual daily survival - check. Emotional and personal interactions - check. Zombie killing - check. Funny stuff - check. NotTooOverTheTop spiritual elements - check. you get the idea.

This book and the rest of the series is all good stuff. Seriously.

James Foster is great. Perfect.
