Stop using AI to replace actual narrators
Revisado: 07-28-24
I don’t really know if this book was any good bc the AI narration was absolutely terrible. It would have been fine had I been listening to a textbook. However, there’s absolutely no sense of narrative nuance, which made the story more confusing than it wasn’t in many places. I didn’t even realize the book had ended until I was halfway through the end titles and had to go back to catch the ending to make sure I’d heard it correctly.
Get rid of AI narration, Audible. Seriously. Pay the trained and talented professionals the money to do the job that you - quite literally - couldn’t have created this app without. It’s a d*ck move, Audible. Not only for the narrators, but for the authors as well bc if the next book in this series (or any book at all) is narrated with AI, you can bet there will be a ton of us who feel the same way and won’t be paying to listen to it.

Meh
Revisado: 05-14-21
The other two books were decent, but this one feels like it was put together quickly to meet a deadline. Forgetting the character Daniel’s name was actually David was a pretty boneheaded mistake, and it made for less character impact when he was involved because “who is that Daniel guy again?” Also, there was a relatively crazed world-building effort near the end, which made it feel like there wasn’t a lot of thought put into the finer details of how everything fits together. Whoever edited this need to go back and take a class on continuity. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t particularly good either. I was glad to be done with it.

What the heck is up with the narrator??
Revisado: 10-09-18
Omg, it’s like they’re paying the narrator by the hour, but they’ve capped her salary at 7 1/2 hours so she’s rushing through it at top speed. It’s kind of amazing to listen to. Putting it on .75 speed helped, but then it sounded like she was just a little drunk. It worked for the slow southern drawls, but not much else. Story was okay, but predictable. Good for brainless listening when doing housework.

There are some good things about this book, but the author goes for the low-hanging fruit when crafting just about everything. Mind-numbing banal. I couldn’t finish it.

Meh.
Revisado: 05-17-18
Davina Porter is fabulous, as always. The story was good enough, but it seemed to gloss over a lot and it was disappointingly predictable. Could have been much better. And why the title Shadow Music? There’s nothing in this story to indicate anything might be related to it. It seems like Ms. Garwood could have put in a bit more effort.

The male protagonist is a jack@ss.
Revisado: 03-08-17
I couldn't get past how strong the female character was and how utterly unlikeable her male counterpart was. Whiny, obnoxious, self-absorbed, and Ms. Quinn wrote the female lead as miserable and unable to do anything about him. As empowered as she made the female lead for a 19th woman, she still shackled her to the most obnoxious man alive. She resolved his stupidity at the very end, but by then it was too late. Very disappointing, Ms. Quinn.

Revisado: 08-04-15
This book is an absolute hoot. I haven't had this much fun with a book in years. And Will Wheaton is so good at narrating it. If you're any kind of self-respecting geek, you will listen to this book right now, without thinking twice. You owe it to yourself. Trust me.
