I can't enumerate all the reasons I loved this book, but I'll try. I loved this book because it took the world and characters we met in #1 and expanded on them all in beautiful ways. This book literally had me laughing out loud. I loved the animal pals, the Aussie jargon, the challenges and motivations every character faced, and all the moments of Fisher's mindfulness. This book was therapeutic in all the ways it subtly reminded me to slow down, focus on the moment and my 5 senses.
I laughed out loud more times than I can remember, and I am so grateful for Heath Miller's narration. Mr.Miller truly brought all the characters to life for me, with all their quirks and personalities. I instantly bought Book 3 the moment I finished this one.
Fish on!

I was surprised HOW MUCH I enjoyed this book. It had a good fast pace, dual timelines from the past vs current that kept the suspense, and a great twist.

I was thrilled to find Kate Reading narrating this, as I have grown to love her voice from the Lady Sherlock series. As such, I enjoyed this book despite the slot plot and anti-climactic ending. There were several glimmers of enjoyable story within - I most enjoyed when Lady Emily ignored social norms of the day and followed her own independent spirit. Drinking port, NOT retiring with the ladies after dinner, hanging out with artists, going to lectures at colleges - the scandal! And I also really enjoyed how much Homer's Iliad appeared as a plot device. All the descriptions of Greek and Athenian artifacts made me want to visit a museum. And I truly appreciate it the intellectual comparison of Hector versus Achilles. overall though, I feel like the story just dragged on a bit... I don't feel compelled to read anymore in the series unfortunately.

Saw the Villain from Miles Away but Still Enjoyable

It's been awhile since I've read a Sherlockian novel so I forgot that the villain, like Moriarty, is known from the outset. So it's not so much a whodunnit as a why/how-dunnit, and the thrill is in the chase. I have gotten so used to Veronica Speedwell books where the villain and motive was a surprise, so knowing the villain so early in this book almost took out some of the joy of reading it. Overall I still enjoyed it and will add it to my rotation while I wait for more Veronica Speedwell and Lady Sherlock books to come out.

What I like most about this one is the interaction between Veronica, Stoker, and Tiberius. Their dynamic makes for entertaining scenes that propel the story along. I also enjoyed the new characters in this novel, and I was able to visualize them and their quirks so clearly thanks to excellent writing.
One of the funniest recurring themes for me in this book was how Veronica would get lost in thoughts of Stoker and get interrupted - the comedic timing of it made me laugh out loud. I'm grateful for the arc of their relationship on top of the latest mystery to solve.

I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure as much as A Dangerous Collaboration, and found myself simultaneously quite satisfied and yet quite ravenous for the next installation. The villain in this one is a proper villain with no redeemable qualities, and I also like the psuedo-villian for the complexity they bring. I like how the juxtaposition of these two characters (no spoilers) show how some villains are made from poor circumstances and a streak of poor choices, while others are downright vile.
I related to the internal struggles Veronica endures when facing her own poor decisions of youth. Overall, the themes and arcs for all characters was quite satisfying.
And my goodness, I laughed so hard at the scene where she calls her dogs to help chase an intruder and one sits on her to assure itself that Veronica is safe. As a dog lover, that scene alone is where I decided this would get 5 stars. I love the relationships with the doggies in these mysteries.

Not as good as Book 4 but still great

A thrilling and satisfying adventure for Victoria Speedwell and Stoker. I still think Book 4 is my favorite so far but this was definitely enjoyable and rich with new characters. I do look forward to more adventures with some of the characters (no spoilers) who have been making greater appearances each installation. I feel like there's a wealth of strong, capable women, but their strength is not unrealistic. For each, her strength suits the role she finds herself in within this society. I do prefer this route because the collection of strong characters surrounding her makes Victoria seem more realistic, not a superhero.

This has been my favorite book this far in the series! I was excited when I realized it would be a bit of a bottle episode/dinner murder mystery. And the plot did not disappoint me.
Veronica and Stoker's brother travel to a small island to collect a rare glass wing butterfly. As expected, all is not well on this island and Veronica is given the opportunity to solve a tantalizing mystery.
I laughed out loud several times and was so invested in the mystery I couldn't put this book down. It was a pleasure to meet Tiberius and to see the dynamic between him and Stoker. I truly enjoyed the characters in this novel and plan to read this again and again.

I didn't particularly love Book 1 but I wanted to give this series another shot. my goodness, I'm glad I did! I did not find Veronica as stubborn as Book 1 - her confidence and determination are as strong as ever, but I feel it's a bit more relatable and admirable than my first impression.
I'm this book, Veronica and Stoker are determined to get to the bottom of an Egyptian Curse. Being scientists, they don't believe the curse is real and work with strong motivation to get to the bottom of it. I found the storyline compelling and entertaining. I was surprised by the ending and didn't feel like it was too contrived.
Finally, the part I enjoyed most was when Victoria used the behavior of butterflies as a metaphor for her behavior with another character.
Well done, looking forward to the next one.

Laurie's bio covers the arc from her energetic childhood through the Olympics and onto Dancing With The Stars. It's a fun, light read that is honest but not excessively personal. Laurie turns her perseverance into a gentle encouragement for the reader to go after their own dreams.
Honestly this book was just what I wanted to get me hyped up about Women's Artistic Gymnastics at the Olympics.
