Historia
After the killing of a prominent mob lawyer, NYPD homicide detectives Jacob Jackson and Caitlin Grimes start receive chilling, written “rules” for how to commit the perfect murder. "Rule number one for the perfect murder: Evidence is your enemy. Leave none behind." Jackson (Reid Scott) and Grimes (Cobie Smulders) race to find the killer, setting them on a collision course with the city’s crime underbelly, and a perpetrator who seems happy to toy with them. “Rule number two. No crimes of passion. The perfect murder is always business, never pleasure.”

The scene change music was to jarring/loud at times. That said, the overall sound editing was excellent, full dimensional sound.

Vibrant verbal imagery, heroic suspense, tender
Revisado: 12-13-24
Loved it. Both story crafting and descriptive language are stellar. The suspense surrounding the college students who doggedly try to set right long-buried wrongs brings you to the edge of your seat. Hard decisions are made out of love. Character, a too-seldom celebrated trait, is what drives the protagonists. Grandpa would have been so proud.

Talented Narrator
Revisado: 05-13-24
Narrator did a fine job of differentiating the characters, in both voice and cadence. She is a talented actress, able to convey subtle meanings I now she delivers dialog. I will search for and listen to books she has read.

Jarring date inconsistencies
Revisado: 04-24-24
A Gremlin and other 70's to 80's cars used as if commonplace, alongside K-cups, Craigs list, etc which didn't EXIST when those vehicles roamed the streets. Choose a decade and at least watch cop shows from the era to get the coffee maker right. It felt like a Gen Z author took an incomplete manuscript and filled in the blank sections without any attempt at research. It was so jarring that it took me entirely out of the story flow several times. I struggled to finish it for that reason. The ending was rather abrupt as well. It felt like another chapter or even several more paragraphs would have helped build anticipation for another book.

Amazing prequel and after-story for Holmes circle
Revisado: 12-03-23
Lovely narration, bringing life to the main characters, as well as the chameleon that was the young girl who would one day be the "simple landlady," Mrs.Hudson. The tale takes us from before her birth and into her 7th decade, with careful attention to the historical backdrop that takes us up to a London rebuilt and built up after WW2, with automobiles instead of handsome cabs. Her long-hidden history leads to the murderous attack on Mary Russell, who suffered as proxy for "Clara" Watson. One of Sherlock Holmes first cases is finally solved, without his knowledge, in the closing lines of the tale. Well-written and well preformed.

Historia
Mackenzie "Mack" Dalton is a Milwaukee bar owner with a nose for trouble - literally. A neurological glitch has left her with extra-perceptive senses. So when she stumbles upon a dead body in the alley behind the bar - the same spot where her own father was shot eight months earlier - she can tell right away there's something fishy in the air. The lead detective thinks there's a link between the two deaths, and he'll need Mack's help to sniff out the murderer. But when all the evidence points to her as the most likely culprit, it could be an early last call for Mack.

Fascinating, fun, slightly flirty, Capone ties
Revisado: 11-17-23
Great narrator, consistent individual character voices, love the "chocolatey smooth" Scottish voice of the detective. The book, which lays a solid groundwork of memorable characters, relationships, location, and a natural atmosphere for new characters to join, others to leave. Fascinating look at the challenges of living with synesthesia, but also the insights and pleasurable aspects to seeing the world in a way most people cannot. The story incorporates both history and legends arising from All Capone's activities in Milwaukee, from smuggling tunnels to hidden gold. Looking forward to reading the author's next books.
