A Great Mundane Case

Been a bit trigger shy about the Dresden Files after Battlegrounds, but good to come back and see Harry on the mend. A true to form Dresden story that doesn't have world shaking stakes, but still plenty of urban wizard goodness. Looking forward to the next full entry in the series now.

Jim Butcher did a pretty solid job as narrator. Doesn't quite have the same range of Marsters, but he still has a pretty good voice.

Drives the speed limit

The story is well established in the MHI universe from the get go, but it feels like it lacks the humor, excitement, and character charisma of previous entries in the franchise. More of a Sunday drive than a rally race.

SAO+Digimon+Ringo

A fairly solid opening of a new series delved from John Ringo's myriad muses. Some of the references to gaming culture are probably a bit myopic for a setting twenty or so years down the way, but otherwise an entertaining start of a young woman's journey from reclusive gaming elite to stomper of digital invaders in The Real.

A great ride.

Take Firefly, blend it with Gundam, season generously with Ghost in the Shell and Cyberpunk, and you have the universe of Gun Runner. John and Larry have built a great world and populated it with deep geopolitical intrigue in the background, and in the foreground we get folks just trying to survive it. And maybe get that nice bit of land with a pond back on Earth.

Definitely looking forward to more adventure of Jack, Jane, and the crew of the Tarheel.

Emotional Drift Car Ride

Butcher didn't pull any punches with this one. The cover should have a warning akin to narcotics: Do not listen to while driving or operating heavy machinery. Not because the story will make you drowsy, but because it can elicit emotions that would make such activities hazardous.

And once again, James Marsters brought his A-game, which I think gave even more gravitas to the story. Bravo, gentlemen!

A Disappointing Reprise

"There Will Be Dragons" is one of my favorite books, and the first audiobook I owned thanks to the CD that was packaged with the original hardcover release. In comparison, Tim Fannon's performance is lacking when compared to the original narrator. He inconsistently mispronounces the names, and the prospect of listening to him butcher "Daneh", "Sheida", and "Ghorbani" for the whole book are unattractive.

A power cord from the dark

A rollercoaster ride of heavy metal, intrigue, and humanity. Solid characters, and a story that won't let you put it down as Sakura rides the knife edge between success and oblivion.

Hayes does it again

Less super heroes and fantasy, but none the less another solidly written story. With on point pacing, competent characters, and enough action and threads of mystery to keep the reader wanting more.

Scott Aiello did an excellent performance through the bulk of the story, with Carol Monda providing a tone shifted segment as an analog to a post-credit stinger.

Looking forward to more entries in the series, and hope to see them soon.

Don't mess with Mama

Another solid entry into the MHI universe. Sarah and Larry presented a well meshed collaboration. Bailey Carr had a solid performance, save for a couple missteps (pronouncing "Darne" as "Darn", Julie could have used a little more accenting).
