there always seems to be this problem with audio book voice actors. They never seem to listen to the hundreds of hours of audio on the books that came before them. listen to them so you know how to pronounce things. the story is good but all of the names were not familiar, and all of the characters changed...i never thought of Poledra as an omd crone for example ....

Hm. Barely worth a free credit
Revisado: 11-27-18
Where to start. Everything is easy and it only takes a week to become a master wizard. And you can do anything with solidified sound which ironically is an incongruous concept. The book is a selection of copy and paste bits (Roman legions, Scottish highlanders, etc) and a letter or two removed to change names. The story is about as deep as a thimble. I gave it a chance. I went through the first two books and it didn't get better. If I didn't know better I'd think this was a self published book. This is the kind of storiy my kids wrote when they were 7 where everything is perfect and amazing and everyone is instantly a master of everything. You want 50 pounds of gold? No worries I have never seen gold dust or how to pan before but give me an hour with a magical contraption that I have never seen done before and I'll whip it up. Yeah skip these.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

If you only ever listen to one audiobook...
Revisado: 06-22-15
If you could sum up The Martian in three words, what would they be?
Though-provoking, Funny, Favourite
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Martian?
The great hydrogen scare. You'll get it when you read it.
What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?
Mr Bray might have edged out Marc Thompson as my favorite narrator.. maybe. and that's saying something. This is the best narration of any of the 70 or so books I've listened to.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really, but it's not that kind of book.
Any additional comments?
I have listened to this book over a dozen times. It's my go-to book when whatever else I'm listening to ends and I'm on the road. This is by far my favorite book to listen to and I'm sure it will be yours too.

If you could sum up The Facebook Effect in three words, what would they be?
This is a great book on the not-too-biased creation and history of Facebook. Some interesting tidbits and history. Not as much "how" or "what made them do that" but a good story on the trials and tribulations.
BUT: The poor narration killed the audiobook version for me. There was so much swallowing and slip smacking and tooth licking that it killed the flow of the narration and made it very difficult to listen to. Almost grossed me out. Mr. Kirkpatrick should stick to writing and never speak, ever. I may be a bit sensitive about this kind of thing but it made me stop listening to the book and buy the Kindle edition instead.
Who was your favorite character and why?
NA
What didn’t you like about David Kirkpatrick’s performance?
The constant lip smacking, swallowing, and tooth licking
"breath...lick smack. say a few words, swallow, finish sentence" terrible.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
NA
Any additional comments?
Keep this guy on the keyboard and off the mic.

Historia
The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

Good Story, deserves a better author.
Revisado: 01-03-09
I like the story of the Wheel Of Time. It is truely epic fantasy and is a great story. It's a shame that it wasn't told by a better author. Jordan is long-winded, and over-describes everything. It appears he was desperate for filler material so he redescribes every little thing, every time you go back to a character.
If Jordan would simply get to telling the story, and stop repeating himself every third paragraph these books could have been done in a trilogy.
Jordan tends to over use certain mechanics. Every woman thinks that every man is a stuborn idiot. Every man thinks that every woman is impossible to figure out. Every woman sniffs when she is put out. Every one jumps to the wrong conclusion about everything. (Rand killing Morgase, is a good example).
I don't think I can stand to hear/read '...he could tell she was Aes Sedai by her agelss face", or a woman gripping her skirts or arranging them again.
I also wish that the Aiel weren't Fremen from Dune, and that Ogier's weren't straight out of Never Ending Story.
Anyway, the story itself is a great story. Jordan can come up with wonderful fantasy. It's just a shame he can't tell it like it deserves to be told.
