Historia
Thomas Covenant is a leper, a bitter and solitary pariah who is mystically transported to another Earth where time moves differently than ours, one in which magic takes many forms. The Land is threatened by many evils, the most immediate of which is a maddened Cavewight whose subterranean excavations have unearthed the ancient and puissant Staff of Law. More dangerous to the free people of the Land is the Gray Slayer, Lord Foul, the Despiser, who intends to destroy the actual foundations of the Earth that he might wage war against the universe’s creator.

ugh, this narrator is killing me
Revisado: 04-08-25
The story is good and the narrator's voice and characterization is good, but the entire book is read in quick, breathless preachy manner. Even when it's a calm, no action scene. it's like listening to an over excited Captain Kirk blurting out 8 word sentences as if your life depended on every word. It's exhausting. I'm 6 hours in.....I'd like to finish the story, but this guy is killing me.

Historia
A haunting dream that will not relent pulls author Kent Nerburn back into the hidden world of Native America, where dreams have meaning, animals are teachers, and the "old ones" still have powers beyond our understanding. In this moving narrative, we travel through the lands of the Lakota and the Ojibwe, where we encounter a strange little girl with an unnerving connection to the past, a forgotten asylum that history has tried to hide, and complex, unforgettable characters.

Historia
After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

tedious
Revisado: 02-17-25
The narrator is difficult to listen to. Every sentence is blurted out in 5 or 6 breathless words, regardless of punctuation. It's exhausting to listen to. It is so tedious it becomes difficult to follow the story and at 2/3rds of the way through I just gave up on it because it became torturous to my brain.

One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

repetitive and shallow and too long
Revisado: 04-19-24
If you have any experience with introspection or self awareness, skip this book. It had a couple of good nuggets but they weren't unique., you've probably already seen them on a meme floating around social media. The entire book is nothing but but analogies strung together which the narrator runs through with a little snark. If you are just itching to read it then go through the first two chapters and the last one....and even that might be too much.

Well written and narrated. Listening to stories, experiences and teachings in the authors own words and voice lends extra impact and significance. I've lived in some of the same areas during the same times and so some of the stories really resonated with me and provided a different perspective. I loved this book and the way it made me feel and think about the world around me.

I want my money back
Revisado: 03-23-24
This was horrible. Maybe an okay story if you can get over the fact that it is loaded with clichés and reads like the author was trying too hard. The narrator is terrible.....so....so.....terrible. His accents are awful and he loses his place with the characters. His rate of speech doesn't vary much and he's flat. I'm putting this narrator on my 'Do Not Listen List'.

It's okay. Shallow storyline...like a daytime soap.
Revisado: 01-29-24
Narrator was good about half the time, but mixed up some of the character's accents. Some of them were fine, others were unbelievable. Having lived in the deep northwest of WA I know ther aren't that many people, who were born and raised in the area with NJ-esq accents. At one point she made a beautiful young character sound like an old version of Katherine Hepburn. The main character was supposed to spend a lot of time talking to the child in a loving, soothing tone....it was anything but. Most of the story was very predictable and contrite. It was like reading a Hallmark movie but without real feeling or emotion.
