Historia
With no water, no air, and no native life, the planet Gora is unremarkable. The only thing it has going for it is a chance proximity to more popular worlds, making it a decent stopover for ships traveling between the wormholes that keep the Galactic Commons connected. If deep space is a highway, Gora is just your average truck stop. The Five-Hop is run by an enterprising alien and her sometimes helpful child, who work hard to provide a little piece of home to everyone passing through.

Another Becky Chambers delight
Revisado: 06-14-24
A very character-driven piece focusing on the Galactic Commons’ least-represented species in the other books: Laru, Quelin, and Akaraks. Like all in the series, the book is anchored by a supporting character from another book, in this case, Pei. The piece is wrought with Chambers’ usual hopefulness and charm, sure to please Wayfarers fans and newcomers to the series alike. Serious meditations on war, xenophobia, racist inequality, and the difficulties of parenting are deftly balanced by beautiful moments of compassion and understanding as well as hilarious beats like a bunch of aliens trying to understand what the deal is with humans and cheese. Don’t miss it!

Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

A delightful peek into the hidden turnings
Revisado: 06-09-23
A wonderful, deeply atmospheric exploration of Auri’s world. The places and objects of the Underthing pop with personality and life. Auri’s outlook and feelings are at once puzzling and achingly familiar to anyone who has ever had a frustrating day or felt that things weren’t quite right with the world or themselves. You learn a little about alchemy, too!

Historia
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Delightful and fresh
Revisado: 07-27-21
Full of all the charming warmth that is Becky Chambers’ hallmark, but treads new ground from the Wayfarer series. Emmett Grosland’s reading is deft and enjoyable.
