Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Somehow, the pack of the Wolf Who Rules is connected to a group of vanished people. Werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham are tasked with investigating.

Revisado: 03-28-21
I admit I have every one of the Alpha and Omega series, as well as Mercy series, and listen to them repeatedly because I wouldn't mind living in that world. Plus, being born in Montana and having lived in the locales she uses, it feels like home. So I was excited for this new book, Wild Sign. I'm not going to give away any of the many secrets in this book, but I will say it has so much back story on some of the minor characters, bringing them to life and making them more real.
Charles and Anna are just so darned cute together, And effective at doing what they do. This book is, in my opinion, the best of the lot. Action, adventure, witches, werewolves, hiking and water sports, all of it here. If you are a fan, I imagine you will love it. If you are new to the series, you might want to start with some of the others, but the writing is solid, the characters are developing more each book, the plots are engaging and varied. What are you waiting for?? Hit that button.

Dr. Abby Corman has a bold idea: open a stable doorway between our world and an uninhabited parallel Earth. A new world we can use to mine resources to end poverty, grow enough food to end all hunger, and allow for population growth to end overcrowding. What could be a more noble aspiration for a brilliant young scientist? But the path to hell is paved with good intentions....

This is a great start to a fun series.
Revisado: 03-10-21
I have read most of Faith Hunter's Skinwalker series, and for the most part, liked it. So I was happy to see a new series, especially since it was included in the Plus catalog. I read the first, but not with a lot of attention -- I"m ADHD -- so listened again, then again, getting a little more each time.
Then the second came out!! Woot woot. I dropped what I was reading -- or re-reading -- and curled up to hear this new story. And then again. I like it. More backstory this time, good character development. Good new characters. I have to admit I want Cupcake to be my neighbor, but you can keep the guys. They are too generic. Are there no men out there who aren't tall, incredibly hot and sexy, available, and killer shots. Come on. You can do better. My man is tall, and okay looking, at our age not exactly chasing me around the bed 3 times a night, not available and I wouldn't trust him with a machete, much less a high-tech killing machine. That's okay. I get to be the strong one. Try it sometime. It is fun.

Revisado: 03-10-21
I admit, the title intrigued me. The summary was odd, but okay. This book is FABULOUS. Get past the names and the places. Not everyone in the world is European nor American. Listen to the story of an aging couple finding themselves in the strangest, and yet highly plausible way. I'm that woman. Her husband is my husband. We are them. Read this. Take an hour off and smile down to your core. ****Update My hubby and I were traveling and needed a short book, so we listened to this. He is not a reader, preferring movies to books. But he was entranced. Laughed at all the right places and afterwards, we talked about this miracle. I hope you like it as much as we do.

Good story, weak narration
Revisado: 01-28-21
I was intrigued by this story line, and after reading the first in the series, wanted to follow it a bit further. This is not a new idea, a multiverse of Earths that extends to infinity, each slightly different. And what could possibly go wrong opening a gateway into them. Lots of "what if" to play with.
But the narration was dreadful. I felt like I was a little kid at the library listening to a high school drama student reading fairy tales with breathless enthusiasm and all the subtlety of a car wreck. The accents were inconsistent, the rich b***h scientist was Saturday morning cartoon villain, and the boyfriend, I couldn't remember which of the stereotypes was being addressed. The former soldier, the sexy beast, the compassionate partner, the successful businessman, the adventurer. Scientist Barbie and Perfect 2020 Ken dolls.
I think this might be a book I would enjoy reading on the page, but not listening to. Not horrible, just not for me.

Great Story and the virus connect hits home!!
Revisado: 01-28-21
I really like this book a lot, for several reasons. It is a typical shoot em up, which is okey, and a bit derivative, which is to be expected. We apparently have standard names now for robots that are letter/number/letter/number --R2D2 -- but having one called Fancypants made me very happy. We revisit the Hunger Games, but with a few new twists, and that was okay as well.
The virus that infects anyone who comes in contact hits particularly hard, as I am home with a mild case of COVID, isolated and out of touch, literally, with those I love. The longing of Medusa to be free, able to sail away, feels very real to me. It is an idea that resonates with all the politics around COVID, maintaining distance, wearing a mask, washing hands, etc,, which begins to feel very mechanical and robotic.
I downgraded the narration, only because I heard something very different. I was surprised at the difference between the dialog and the rest of the story. In my experience, normally the narration of the story is smoother and some readers have a problem with dialog. But Ray Porter does a terrific job of dialog, extremely clear characters that have great emotions, great expression, great development. The story narration feels flat to me, repeating tech talk that is opaque jargon. Not his fault. I think it must be very hard to write about something that doesn't exist and make it sound logical and rational. Ergo, jargon. I am looking forward to more of this series. I like it a lot!!

Heart warming, and heart breaking
Revisado: 12-14-20
I have listened to this a few times now, and each time I am deeply touched. I'm not exactly sure how old Mr. Rather is, but it hurts my heart to listen to his voice, always so strong and reassuring, begin to break as he talks about some events. This is a great book, and I love that he took the time to write it and give it to us. Bless you, Mr. Rather, for all that you have given to the world in those many years you have been on earth. I hope you have enough more.

Historia
The beloved King Ik is dead, and there was barely time to check his pulse before the royal throne was supporting the suspiciously shapely backside of an impostor pretending to be Ik's beautiful, long-lost daughter. With the land's heroic hunks busy drooling all over themselves, there's only one man left who can save the kingdom of Jenair. His name is Dungar Loloth, a rural blacksmith turned innkeeper, a surly hermit, and an all-around nobody oozing toward middle age, compensating for a lack of height, looks, charm, and tact with guts and an attitude.

Just the sort of light nonsense I needed!!
Revisado: 09-25-20
There is so much to read right now in the middle of the pandemic, and I am tired of reading the bad news, political garbage and gossipy books. Along comes Witches be Crazy. I'm only about 1/4 way through, but am completely enjoying the ridiculous names, impossible fight scenes, and extreme characters. It has absolutely nothing of value, and I am so grateful. Reviews have made comparisons to Princess Bride and other things. I'm sorry. Think Mork and Mindy. Just laugh along. Thank you, Mr. Hunder. You are on my list of people I would adopt for their sick sense of humor.

This is not the end!!
Revisado: 09-04-20
I was operating under the impression this was a 10-book series. I don't know why, but was sure this would resolve all the flags fluttering out there in my wind. Nope. It is as good as the others, RCB is fabulous as always, but I was expecting resolution. I know some series are infinite, like space, time and soap operas. Some need to find a way to tie up loose ends. This is one of the latter.
