Historia
The year is 2004: Lina Sparrow is an ambitious young lawyer working on a historic class-action lawsuit seeking reparations for the descendants of American slaves. The year is 1852: Josephine is a 17-year-old house slave who tends to the mistress of a Virginia tobacco farm - an aspiring artist named Lu Anne Bell. It is through her father, renowned artist Oscar Sparrow, that Lina discovers a controversy rocking the art world: Art historians now suspect that the revered paintings of Lu Anne Bell, an antebellum artist known for her humanizing portraits of the slaves who worked her Virginia tobacco farm, were actually the work of her house slave, Josephine.

not a slavery story... bland, weak, a waste
Revisado: 06-28-19
the plot goes all the way to the end and then it just ends. the character is doing a court case and it goes into to so much detail then when they finally have enough info and research to make the case the author ends it. the main characters boss says nevermind we're not going to do the case. the end. the back story for the slave character is dry. it's like the author didnt do any research about slavery. its not a slavery book. its about a white woman coming into herself. shes bland then she meets a rocker and then she quits her job. hardly a reason for a life altering transformation. just a waste of time.

weak unrealistic slave story
Revisado: 06-25-19
it's a slavery story with a white hero. it inadvertently disguises the realities of slavery. dor an adult who knows more about slaver it can come off as condescending and disrespectful to the true plight of slaves. but since it was intended for children it's a nice way to intro the topic. I think in 2019 these type of "white savoir" ways of telling the most shameful sin of American history is more harmful than not. its basically a perpetuation of the white savior method of propaganda and it it can be deceptive. enjoy.
