Historia
Every year the people of the Protectorate leave a baby as an offering to the witch who lives in the forest. They hope this sacrifice will keep her from terrorizing their town. But the witch in the forest, Xan, is kind and gentle. She shares her home with a wise Swamp Monster named Glerk and a Perfectly Tiny Dragon, Fyrian. Xan rescues the abandoned children and delivers them to welcoming families on the other side of the forest, nourishing the babies with starlight on the journey.

Historia
Set in Mississippi at the height of the Depression, this is the story of one family's struggle to maintain their integrity, pride, and independence in the face of racism and social injustice. And it is also Cassie's story - Cassie Logan, an independent girl who discovers over the course of an important year why having land of their own is so crucial to the Logan family, even as she learns to draw strength from her own sense of dignity and self-respect.

TJ
Revisado: 06-11-24
Every character came to life with depth, substance, and hope. I am a woman of color and filled with gratitude that this author put down these words. I felt her sorrow, her pain and resilience.
TJ hurt the most because like kids of today he sought out acceptance amongst his peers. Like TJ, too many of our young men and women have ended up incarcerated or worse, dead. Racism exists. It is bigger and uglier than I’ve ever seen it.
The struggle: civility, tolerance and acceptance are worn thin these days. We, those who dare must continue to share our history, trials, failures and successes. We must have hope. We must give hope.
Thank you for your book. I will always remember it.

Excellent review
Revisado: 03-28-24
Loved the book. The writer captured the confusion and curiosity young highschoolers, have regarding life. I really appreciate it. The innocence portrayed in the children, and the reason why our protagonist would want to be catcher in the rye.

A deeply moving story
Revisado: 03-22-24
Feelings. The most important message in this story. Beautifully written. Control , peace a utopian life style vs anger, hunger, love and death. Definitely, a discussion starter.

Don’t let fear strangle love
Revisado: 03-07-24
I’ve been a social worker for over thirty years and appreciated your accuracy and insight into the love, losses, challenges and unity human spirits endure. Your words captured my heart. Your experiences reminded me of the work, pain and on occasion joy of reuniting and uniting children to their families. The struggle to do what is the best for our little child souls is real. You are a warrior. Continue to lead and share. Truly an inspiration. Thank you.

Historia
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

Sisters and family
Revisado: 01-25-24
The story of the sisters, mother, step father and loves were woven together like a big beautiful blanket. The blanket, the story brought me warmth and happy memories. I especially recommend this for sisters who are apart from each other. Time is short. Take a minute to call the people you love and say, “ Hello Beautiful!”
