Uninteresting
Revisado: 11-12-08
I rarely leave reviews on Audible, because there are usually enough for a listener to get a feel of other's opinions before they download the book. In this case, there were none, so here I go. The plot could have been interesting, but wasn't developed enough. The characters were cliches, and the narrator was dreadful. His reading was not only monotone, it also seemed out of synch with the punctuation that must have been in the book. I'm not an english major, but I do like to hear words pronounced correctly by a professional narrator. (Marine Core man)not corpse man (felt my gorj rise) not gorg rise.... these are just two mispronunciations in the last few minutes of this book. There are many others that I can't recall, as it took me almost a month to bother finishing the book.

Historia
From Robinson Crusoe and The Swiss Family Robinson to Alive! and Adrift, tales of survival have captivated readers. Here are the most remarkable stories imaginable of maroons, castaways, and other survivors from the 1500s to the present: their moral dilemmas, their personalities, and their influence on society, literature, and art.

Reads like a text book
Revisado: 03-14-06
I believe this was written in 1988 but the tone and style seems more like an 1800's text book. It contains quite a bit of information, but I didn't find it at all "Fascinating, entertaining, and horrifying" as the review by Paul Theroux states. Nor can "I heartily recommend it". If you're interested in a study of the psychology and history of marooned people, go for it, if you're looking for facinatition and entertainment, pass on this one.
