Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Keep an open mind
Revisado: 01-30-24
The stories are amazing. They all get you thinking about what is, what was, and what could be. It's quite philosophical and even challenges our society's morals and personal views. If you buy this audiobook, however, you need to really sit down an pay attention (I wouldn't multitask while listening), because it's super easy to get lost in the stories. And, while not all of them quite make sense, if you keep an open mind, you're really in for an exciting ride.
I preferred the male narrators to the female one. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I'm listening to an older version of Siri or Alexa reading the book. You know, that computer voice with the particular drop in intonation at the end of each phrase. (I had experienced her in a different book and didn't like her narration there either; still, I find that she is much more enjoyable in this one and even liked her at times.) So, if you're the kind of listener who can get over any voice and focus on the story, don't hesitate!

Entertaining, but also deep in some ways
Revisado: 04-09-23
Overall, I would recommend this book to listeners who are looking to be entertained, not those looking for a life-changing tale.
The story is quite predictable except for a few surprises here and there. However, it is well told, which really made the difference for me. It is well structured and easy to follow. The story also touches on some deeper themes (identity, the sacrifices we make to get what makes us feel "safe," how we deal~or not~with childhood trauma, etc.) but it is up to the listener to actually reflect on them.
The performances are great! The narrators really gave their characters a voice, and I never struggled to finish a chapter.

Historia
Dumas' novel became one of the great love stories from its first publication in 1848. The title role of the consumptive heroine and her ultimate sacrifice inspired actresses from Sarah Bernhardt to Greta Garbo and led Giuseppe Verdi to write La traviata. In the hands of Nicholas Boulton, the story of passion and conflict is as fresh and moving as when it was first written.

Beautifully written love story
Revisado: 02-20-23
Although the story is predictable in many ways, the beautiful prose of Alexandre Dumas makes every line worthwhile. Camille is a romantic and entertaining tale with classic characters and all the elegance of 19th century Paris.
Nicholas Boulton's narration is superb and definitely contributed to making this one of the best audiobooks I've heard.

Intriguing story, not the best narration
Revisado: 01-24-23
This was my first (maybe also last) Colleen Hoover book. The story was intriguing in a weird and sort of morbid kind of way. It was actually hard for me to stop listening sometimes because I really wanted to know what would happen next (I couldn't believe how messed up the Verity character was). I wasn't crazy about the ending but didn't hate it either. The whole time I was waiting for the story to explode, but it never really did. Also, I found the descriptions to be unnecessarily graphic at times and also quite repetitive.
The narrator for Lowen was good and fit the character. On the other hand, the narrator for Verity sounds incredibly robotic most of the time, which was pretty distracting. Towards the end she gets better (like the last couple of chapters).
Finally, this is NOT a regular mystery or thriller. It's full of graphic abuse and really twisted ideas. Definitely not the kind of book to just pass the time.

Una historia bien contada
Revisado: 11-01-22

Revisado: 02-04-22
I loved this production. The story is beautifully written, sad and happy at the same time, full of wonders and challenges. It really flows. I didn't even feel the time. The narrator does a great job giving each character a distinct personality and voice. I loved her pace and the respect with which she told the story. A beautiful novel from start to finish.

Historia
