Anti Depressant?
Revisado: 02-26-23
A very well written, thought provoking story that might be a good recommendation to acquaintances on anti depressants, or those prone to depression, perhaps? Join Nora as she ‘tries on’ multiple lives and discovers the secret to a happy life. I enjoyed the narration and it was one of those rare books that I could have (well actually did!) listen to all day :) Highly recommend!

Historia
The Center for women's reproductive health offers a last chance at hope - but nobody ends up there by choice. Its very existence is controversial, and to the demonstrators who barricade the building every day, the service it offers is no different from legalised murder. Now life and death decisions are being made horrifyingly real: a lone protester with a gun has taken the staff, patients and visitors hostage.

Food for Thought
Revisado: 07-06-21
I enjoyed the passions demonstrated by the characters about their beliefs. The book confirms that the world is shades of grey not black and white.
I enjoyed the narrator but the movement back and forth in time can be confusing when listening not reading. All in all a good listen.

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Historia
At just 16 years Danny Dunn has everything going for him: brains, looks, sporting aptitude - and luck with the ladies. His mother steers him towards a university education, but with just six months of his degree to go, he signs up for the AIF, driven by a desire to serve his country and plain wanderlust. Danny serves in South-east Asia, spends three and a half years as a POW, and returns a broken man, embittered and facially disfigured. He is scared and overwhelmed by the need to sort himself out, to find out who the hell he is....

Danny Dunn Doesn’t Disappoint
Revisado: 07-02-20
As with all Bryce Courtenay books you will laugh, cry, grimace and sing! The story of Danny Dunn, while not Courtenay’s best, is sure to have you seeking out your next quiet time so you can be alone to listen and be entertained by the next chapter. Personally I enjoy listening to Humphrey Bower and think his vernacular is well matched to Courtenay’s quintessential ’Aussie’ tales. Thanks again Bryce for another entertaining (and always subtly educational)read.

New York history
Revisado: 09-13-19
Really enjoyed learning a little about New York’s early history which was woven through this story. The Dakota apartment building near Central Park and Blackwell’s Island we’re both intriguing settings for a well crafted and easy to listen to story set both in the late 1800’s and 1980’s. Worth listening to!

Not one of her best books.
Revisado: 07-16-19
I love Kristen Hannah's books but I wasnt really a fan of this one. it was a bit predictable and ho hum. I will continue to read other books of hers though as she does produce fabulous reads. I struggled with the voice of the little girl and a couple of the other characters. each to their own. I'm sure other people will enjoy her but not for me I'm afraid.

Unpredictable, loveable, fresh and interesting!
Revisado: 04-28-19
Loved this book almost from the first sentence. One of the few books that I wasn’t able to predict what would happen next. Quinn used a range of literary devices to keep the narrative fresh and interesting and I found the narration by Maarleveld to be enjoyable to listen to also. The story’s settings and narrative’s alternate between Eve who works as a spy in France during WW1 and Charlie a 19 year old “yank” who travels to France in 1946 to search for her cousin who hasn’t been heard from since before the end of WWII. Be warned there is a fair amount of swearing in parts but this is indicative of the author’s very real portrayal of the characters whose stories I couldn’t wait to hear the next episode of. Well worth your money, a great read!
