Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Surprisingly enjoyable listen
Revisado: 01-07-25
Got this as a free download and started listening without reading the description, so it took a bit to get into, but that was quickly resolved with enjoyable characters, fun banter, and an engaging plot. Got better and better as it went along and I really enjoyed the ending. Definitely worth the listen.

Another entertaining romp!
Revisado: 03-23-23
If you liked the first one you'll love this one!
It's hard to find a good espionage thriller that combines action and humor so well but damn is Haris Orkin talented at it! Had a lot of fun with the story, love the characters, narration is on point, and always wondering what was gonna happen next. Enjoyable from start to finish. I also got a kick out of the obscure trivia at the beginning of the chapters, lots of information I did not know!
On top of the thrills and laughs there's also a rather ardent look at the idea of identity, who we are vs who we want to be, and how to reconcile that with how the world sees us, which was unexpectedly profound.
Highly recommend this series!

Historia
James Flynn is an expert shot, a black belt in karate, fluent in four languages, and irresistible to women. He’s also a heavily medicated patient in a Los Angeles psychiatric hospital. Flynn believes his locked ward is the HQ of Her Majesty’s Secret Service. When the hospital is acquired by a new HMO, Flynn is convinced that the Secret Service has been infiltrated by the enemy. He escapes to save the day, and in the process, Flynn kidnaps a young Hispanic orderly named Sancho. This crazy day trip turns into a very real adventure when Flynn is mistaken for an actual secret agent.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Revisado: 03-19-23
An incredibly entertaining read!
James Flynn is the embodiment of the phrase "In like Flynn" Everything he does he does with suavity and style from cruising down the highway in an ill-gotten Aston Martin with two kidnapped cohorts to getting the shit kicked out of him in front of a dive bar. The story never really slows down, going from one hi-jink to another in hilarious and often mortifying ways. It's well told and well written and I had a really hard time putting it down. I also appreciated the little bit at the end about the author.
I love characters that are over self assured and James is certainly that. I loved listening to this book and the characters in it. I had already bought the next book when I was only half way through this one because I knew I would need more. I'm excited to start it!
Definitely recommend if you like well written, fun, action-filled stories with great characters!

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

Never had a tougher time finishing a book
Revisado: 03-09-23
The first book was a slog, but the story was interesting enough to push through. But damn if this isn't one of the worst written books I've ever forced myself to finish. It's so boring. It's so badly written. Not even the characters are engaging. This author talks, and does not stop. After you've gotten the idea they continue to explain it for 50 more pages. This book needs some serious editing. You could cut half of it out easily without losing anything of substance. This book is pretty much a Mary Sue.
I can't recommend this book to anyone. I wouldn't give this book to anyone to read unless I really hated them. This book made me want to stop reading. It's bad. So Bad.

Historia
Sherman Holmes has officially settled into his new city, and the World's Greatest Detective Agency has opened its doors. While his put-upon partner, Watson, would be happy to keep the jobs as simple as missing pets, when a worried worker with an outlandish tale of ghosts walks in, there's no stopping Sherman from taking the case. Now, the new duo must investigate a local "haunted" tourist site where the scares are going off-script and otherworldly interference is suspected.

One of the most enjoyable books I've ever read
Revisado: 03-09-23
I listened to this (and the sequel) 28 times in one month. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a series so thoroughly. The story is fun, it's incredibly well written, and the dynamic between the characters is fantastic! I love the humor, I love the action, I love everything about it. Sherman and Watson are the best and I'll be the first to get any new book with them in it!

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

great story
Revisado: 07-26-21
I know this book gets ragged on a lot but if you listen to the story in the right mindset it's really wonderful. The story is very metaphorical and there's a lot of great wisdom in it. The only downside is the narrator often speaks too quietly or too loudly. There's nothere's not a lot of good sound balance..

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

Unlike any other book I've ever read
Revisado: 12-25-14
Would you listen to John Dies at the End again? Why?
I've read this book about 10 times now, I'm downloading the audiobook, so I can share it with others. I plan on listening to it many times
What other book might you compare John Dies at the End to and why?
Only anything written by David Wong. No other book is comparable to this one.
Which scene was your favorite?
That's a hard one. Probably when all the dismembered body parts were making their way to the pile of other dismembered body parts and started fusing themselves together creating what was described as "Satan's lego kit". That or the Chapter "Shit Narnia"
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The part when you finally find out what's in the shed...
Any additional comments?
I recommend this book to everyone. It is unlike anything you'll ever read. It's such a fantastical story but it feels so damn real. It'll make you believe those things you see out of the corner of your eye are real, very, very real.
