Not that great
Revisado: 04-18-25
The main character is really annoying. Yes her brother is missing but her behavior is a little too over the top. The story is somewhat far fetched as well. The accusations and skepticism take away from the story. Some are fine but it’s constant. The series overall is ok I would purchase when it’s on sale and not use a full price credit for any of the books. The narration is really good.

I'm glad this was free
Revisado: 02-27-25
The story line has potential that the writing doesn't live up to throughout the book. It was very long and drawn out; could have easily been shorter and concise.
The characters are somewhat likeable but then they do / say something that makes me just want the story to end. The double standards occur multiple times, and it gets old.
The narration was pretty bad; the inflections and high-pitched yelling made it nearly impossible to get through. Other times, it was so soft that I couldn't make out what was being said and just guessed.

Meh
Revisado: 02-07-25
It was hard to like the main character. The story was ok but I struggled with the narration and the main character couldn’t find a way to be a decent person. While it was a tragedy, her constant berating and negativity was over the top. She went out of her way to be intentionally rude and make someone who already felt awful feel worse. It made me want to scream if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. Or if you can’t find a way to deal with it, remove yourself from the situation. She didn’t put herself in someone else’s shoes and she didn’t go into it curious, assuming he was hurting too. This hasn’t been my favorite series by this author. Each book is just ok.

The series is just ok. I grew to not like Barbara. She was irrational and only turned to God when she was upset (poor me why oh why God). She thought she was better than the police and it’s aggravating when books reward stupid behavior. And she threw out accusations more than prayer or being rational. She spent more time being angry and holding grudges than turning to God. Not my favorite series by this author.

Main character is annoying
Revisado: 08-18-21
The main character is a spoiled brat. She’s unlikeable and annoying. She is being shot at and takes no precautions? She is petty and not very Christian like in her actions towards others. I know it’s a romantic story but this is over the top. Not my favorite book by this author.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-10-18
I don't usually write reviews but felt compelled to let others know this was a disappointing book. The main character is immature and her actions/behavior were annoyingly frustrating. She is supposed to be highly intelligent but lacks common sense. I found myself wanting the book to end to stop the pain. #fiction #feelgood #underdog #christianfriendly #clean #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Good faith based mystery book
Revisado: 09-16-17
If you could sum up Shadows of the Past in three words, what would they be?
Interesting, engaging and aggrevating
What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadows of the Past?
The struggles of the different families - story line is realistic.
What three words best describe Elise Arsenault’s voice?
Clear, understandable, annoying - she pronounces Martin as Mardin which got old. Does that with several words.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not particularly; I didn't expect it to it was a good listen. I don't regret purchasing the book and will listen to other books in this series.
