Historia
Renew your prayer life with Thomas Merton. Thomas Merton was one of the great spiritual masters: a Trappist monk, profound mystic, and brilliant writer. He inspired men and women from all walks of life with his dedication to prayer and contemplation. In 1967, near the end of his life, Merton gave a powerful set of lectures on prayer to the Sisters of Loretto. He channeled a lifetime full of wisdom, piety, and prayerfulness into these erudite yet down-to-earth talks.

Historia
In The Civil War: A Narrative, Vol. 3, Shelby Foote follows the events of the war from 1862 through 1864, discussing the strategies of both the North and the South and assessing the performance of the Union generals. The book opens with the beginning of the two final, major confrontations of the war: Grant against Lee in Virginia and Sherman pressing Johnston in North Georgia. In vivid narrative as seen from both sides, he tells of the climactic struggles, great and small, on and off the field of battle, that finally decided the fate of this nation.

A Majestic Tour de Force
Revisado: 02-19-21
After over a year of reading these three books, finishing it felt like arriving at the end of a marvelous and illuminating journey, a time travel if you will into an era that has more to teach than I will ever be able to learn, a time that compels me to return back to it again and again like someone hungry for one more bit of information that will help me understand a little better this great and tragic American experiment into which I have been thrust.

One of Mention’s more academic recordings. For those interested in Augustine, and Ambrose in particular, this recording is extremely illuminating.

Historia
In the greatest intelligence operation in the history of the world, Donald Trump was made president of the United States with the assistance of a foreign power. For the first time, The Plot to Destroy Democracy reveals the dramatic story of how blackmail, espionage, assassination, and psychological warfare were used by Vladimir Putin and his spy agencies to steal the 2016 US election. It will show how Russia and its fifth column allies tried to flip the cornerstones of democracy in order to reengineer the world political order that kept most of the world free since since 1945.

A Must Read
Revisado: 07-26-18
This book ranks with the most important books I've read in years. it is a no-nonsense look beneath the tip of the Russian influence "iceberg" that will both disturb and inspire one to action. If I had one book to recommend as a means of understanding the strange and frightening behavior of President Trump, this would be the one.

Historia
The occasion was a big birthday. And it inspired two close friends to get together in Dharamsala for a talk about something very important to them. The friends were His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The subject was joy. Both winners of the Nobel Prize, both great spiritual masters and moral leaders of our time, they are also known for being among the most infectiously happy people on the planet.

Historia
In The China Study, T. Colin Campbell revolutionized the way we think about our food with the evidence that a whole food, plant-based diet is the healthiest way to eat. Now, in Whole, he explains the science behind that evidence, the ways our current scientific paradigm ignores the fascinating complexity of the human body, and why, if we have such overwhelming evidence that everything we think we know about nutrition is wrong, our eating habits haven’t changed.

A Must Read
Revisado: 08-30-17
This book is a must read for anyone looking for intelligent, informed, no-nonsense, and even light-hearted information on what health and good nutrition really look like. Dr Campbell is one of those rare, balanced writers who can deliver his message without drama, anger, or histrionics because he deeply knows of what he writes and has the skill and ability as a writer to communicate effectively. This book changed my life and has helped reinforce in me some fundamentally sound ideas about nutrition - and life - that I plan to develop and deepen in the years ahead. A truly remarkable book!

One of the most profoundly moving books I've read. Our son is going to med school in the Fall, and we read it as a family. We are all changed by it. A simply amazing exploration of the meaning of life.
