Historia
Minerva marks the delightful debut of The Six Sisters, a family saga in six volumes that will recount the romantic adventures of the six marriageable daughters of a country vicar, the Reverend Charles Armitage, in Regency England. The eldest, Minerva, is enchantingly beautiful - but a prude. She lives in the country looking after her siblings while her mother reclines on a chaise longue happily inventing new malaises.

Yet another terrible effort by this narrator
Revisado: 08-03-21
parsimonious = pär″sə-mō′nē-əs
The words are available, WITH a pronunciation guide, in any standard dictionary. It seems
“Charlotte Anne Dore”
clearly cannot be bothered to look up the words she doesn’t know how to pronounce.
The only way I can listen to any of Ms. Dore’s narrations is at 1.3 speed otherwise the
constant abrupt pauses
become onerous.

Historia
It's Christmas and the well-born guests who have gathered at Applecross for a delicious weekend of relaxation are warmed by roaring fires, mistletoe, and gorgeously wrapped gifts. It's scarcely the setting for misfortune, and no one - not even that clever young aristocrat and budding sleuth Vespasia Cumming-Gould - anticipates the tragedy that is to darken this light-hearted holiday house party. But soon one young woman lies dead, a suicide, and Vespasia must uncover the heartbreaking truth behind the tragedy.

Preachy Story That DRAGS
Revisado: 06-15-21
Moralizing, preaching, and a mediocre story. Not worth buying and barely tolerable for free. It’s as if the writer was phoning it in and couldn’t be bothered to write a coherent story with actual depth.

Historia
In her father’s household Althea Ervine was used to having the running of things - until her father disowned her (again) and Althea fled to her sister’s home in London. For the first time in her life Althea gave herself up to the gaiety of a purely social life, to the theatre and parties and the admiration of young men. The most ardent of these young men was Edward Pendarly, and Althea thought she could like him very much. But the infuriating, fascinating Sir Tracy Calendar hinted that Edward’s intentions were not all they should be. But why did Sir Tracy care, and for that matter, what were Sir Tracy’s intentions?

Terrible narrator ruins the mood
Revisado: 06-02-21
Decent performance but the narrator has NO idea how to pronounce certain words and she clearly has never bothered to look them up. So irritating that production didn’t bother to hire a competent narrator.

Historia
Lord Francis and Lady Ottilia Fanshawe are preparing for the birth of their first child. But Lady Fan won't let a little thing like pregnancy get in the way of solving a local mystery. Their neighbor - Sir Joslin Cadel, who recently returned from a sugar plantation in Barbados - has collapsed and died on his doorstep. And his young ward, Tamasine Roy, claims to have murdered him. With Tamasine clearly suffering from some kind of mental disorder and the rest of Cadel's household acting suspiciously, it is clear all is not as it seems.

Great story / Narration is spotty
Revisado: 05-28-21
Great story in the series and the narrator is quite talented. However, she’s got a “Benedict Cumberbatch can’t say penguin” going on. The protagonist’s name is “Ottilia” but she says A-tillia in all the books. The word and name are “Coffee” but it’s “Cuffy” in this version of reality. Clearly there was no producer reviewing the voice work. Distracting but not fatal. Meh on the production values.

Returned due to terrible narration
Revisado: 05-14-21
Such fantastic books that it seems impossible that a bad performance could suck the life out of the text. Yet that is exactly the problem here. Flat, emotionless tone a la Prozac. And Maurice is NOT pronounced Morris. 🙄

Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. But it also beguiles us with its endless mysteries, allowing us to ponder why different languages emerged, why there isn't simply a single language, how languages change over time and whether that's good or bad, and how languages die out and become extinct.

Academic has a strange dislike of Shakespeare that is CONSTANTLY front & center during all lectures. As a life-long Shakespearean performer, his dismissal and denigration is puzzling, sad, and an excellent argument for arts-based education. I’ve known high school performers who had a far superior grasp of The Tempest. Clearly a smart man who just does not get The Bard. Too bad.

A 20th century Jamaican white women with a “lilting Jamaican accent” voiced like an average Mid-Coast American circa 1930. Who produced this? Did no one in production READ the book and check that accents were voiced as described? Or you went with the regular narrator and she can’t learn a Jamaican accent? Seriously disappointed given the quality of the series to date. I guess only the UK accents deserve accurate reproduction?

MC Beaton AGAIN. Too bad.
Revisado: 03-05-21
Another morbid obsession with an inaccessible male character aggrandized beyond BELIEF! I wondered why this series seemed so ... pedantic, pathetic, and familiar. Having just been disappointed by her Agatha Raisin series, I’m not surprised to be disappointed by the same flaws in this one. Sloppy & can’t be bothered to keep the story straight book-to-book plus a narcissistic and absurdly coddled male lead. Don’t bother to pay attention, she certainly didn’t while writing the book.
