Historia
Henchmen of a vicious drug syndicate have snatched ten missionaries in a remote area of Venezuela and are holding them for ransom. The high-priority rescue op comes as a personal plea from FBI Director Irene Rivers, who has a very special interest in one of the hostages. The mission is strictly off the books, and there can be no international incident. Just get in and get out—and keep the precious cargo safe.

A bit of a let down…
Revisado: 04-21-24
Narration is good, and I have really enjoyed previous books, but the storyline was lacking in this one. Lots of loose threads that never get tidied up (eg corrupt presidential step-son / White House) and poor plot.
Unfortunately, it’s my least favorite Gilstrap work.

Disappointing
Revisado: 09-05-22
While certain elements of the book are entertaining, the vast majority is poorly developed. We have a cartoon-esque villain, a poorly developed and overly simplistic plot, lots of over-the-top dialogue, and an ending that reads as if Cameron and team ran out of time. It’s as if they decided to just go with, “…and the hostage rescue team took care of the bad guys and everything returned to normal. The end.”
Don’t believe me? When you’re down to a little over an hour remaining, take mental note of the story and ask yourself how they are possibly going to wrap everything up with the amount of time remaining. I was fully expecting an unsatisfying cliff-hanger requiring a follow-on book to finish the story.
I don’t doubt that it’s tedious to routinely turn out new content, and I have always been amazed at how much Cameron produces across so many series; however, this one was just “mailed in” so to speak.
Can we PLEASE get another installment of the Jericho Quinn series? Those never disappoint.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Simply Outstanding
Revisado: 08-16-21
Written with ingenuity and wit, and outstandingly narrated. If you liked The Martian, you will love this book as well. Saturn Run by John Sandford and Ctein is another terrific option in this genre.

Couldn’t finish the book
Revisado: 08-10-21
I used to be a huge Scott Brick fan, but everything he narrates sounds the same - same cadence, same inflection, same delivery. Doesn’t matter what genre or topic, Brick can turn it into white noise.
Give me Dick Hill, Ray Porter, Richard Ferrone, Eric Conger, George Guidall, Peter Hermann, Joe Barrett, just no more Brick…
Pair Brick with mediocre writing and you have the unfinishable novel.

Historia
From Amazon number-one best-selling author Mark Dawson, this novella is an introduction to John Milton, the most dangerous assassin in the pay of Her Majesty’s government. Meet John Milton. He considers himself an artisan. A craftsman. His trade is murder. Milton is the man the government sends after you when everything else has failed. Ruthless. Brilliant. Anonymous. Lethal. You wouldn't pick him out of a crowd, but you wouldn't want to be on his list.

So completely bereft of any semblance of plot, character development, etc. Realize that it’s only 2 hours, but not even the most rudimentary effort on this one.

He plans to launch it on Miami, an attack that could kill millions. There’s just one thing standing in his way: Special agent Jericho Quinn and his team have traveled undercover to Cuba to unravel de la Guardia’s plot before it ignites a nuclear holocaust.

Ridiculous plot, and the change in narrator (Bradbury is okay but given an impossible task), means the loss of the great Cajun drawl of Jacques Tibedeau. Couldn’t keep my interest at all... returning it.

Reacher is on a Greyhound bus, minding his own business, with no particular place to go and all the time in the world to get there. Then, he steps off the bus to help an old man who is obviously just a victim waiting to happen. But you know what they say about good deeds. Now, Reacher wants to make it right. An elderly couple have made a few well-meaning mistakes, and now they owe big money to some very bad people. One brazen move leads to another, and suddenly Reacher finds himself a wanted man in the middle of a brutal turf war between rival Ukrainian and Albanian gangs.

Good story, but...
Revisado: 11-03-19
Been with Lee Child (Reacher) from the beginning, but this may be my last. If you’re a fan of Scott Brick, you’ll probably enjoy this, but for me, I can’t listen to Scott Brick’s delivery any longer. It’s the exact same for every book he reads, regardless of author or genre. PLEASE bring back Dick Hill or try someone else. Reacher is a character worthy of a unique, projecting voice, as if you can hear 6’5” / 250 in his tone. It was the same reaction to when they chose Tom Cruise to play Reacher in the movies — seriously, a diminutive Cruise plays a one man, hulking wrecking crew? Why??? Buy one of the earlier titles read by Dick Hill and compare to one of the later ones read by Brick. Worlds apart... at least IMHOP.

Historia
Lucas Davenport had crossed paths with her before. A rich psychopath, Taryn Grant had run successfully for the US Senate, where Lucas had predicted she'd fit right in. He was also convinced that she'd been responsible for three murders, though he'd never been able to prove it. Once a psychopath had gotten that kind of rush, though, he or she often needed another fix, so he figured he might be seeing her again. He was right.

Ugh...
Revisado: 07-24-17
First person ugh-fest ruined by Scott Brick's performance. Haig's witty writing is poorly suited for Brick - who reads every author, and portrays every character, with the same exact delivery. Would have been imminently better with Joe Barrett or Richard Ferrone (listen to John Sandford). Brick's delivery ruined the book.
