Historia
Barcelona and Real Madrid: two of the most powerful and popular clubs in world football, and one of the world's most bitter sporting rivalries. Going far beyond the boundaries of just sport alone, this is a rivalry at the heart of Spanish life, taking in politics and culture and splitting a country in two. El Clasico gets to the heart of that rivalry, investigating the intrigue, the larger-than-life characters, the key flashpoints and their consequences.

Fun listen
Revisado: 12-15-13
What was one of the most memorable moments of El Clasico?
Lively descriptions of the rivalry. Larger than life characters. Great for soccer lovers.
Have you listened to any of Caroline Shaffer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes - it was a mystery. She's fine.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! But too long.
Any additional comments?
Name pronunciations were fine. Not sure what the other reviewer listening to. I am a native Spanish speaker. Maybe there are different pronunciations based on which country? Anyway. Sounded good to me. And Celtic??? Pronounced with a hard or soft 'c'.

Historia
Melinda Soto, aged 64, vacationing in Mexico, is murdered by a fellow American tourist. Back in her hometown of Reno, Nevada, she leaves behind her adopted son, Jeremy, whom she rescued from war-torn Guatamala when he was a toddler - just one of her many causes over the years. And she leaves behind a circle of friends: Veronique, the academic stuck in a teaching job from which she can't retire; Rosemary, who's losing her husband to Alzheimer's and who's trying to lose herself in volunteer work; Henrietta, the priest at Rosemary's and Melinda's church.

Delicate story. Sweet and a little sad.
Revisado: 05-29-13
What did you love best about Mending the Moon?
Out of tragedy springs the beginnings of hope. Two families are impacted by a violent event that forever alters them all; but through learning to trust and by staying open, they find that their connections, sometimes very unexpected bring them together and give them renewed hope. The story is told at a slow gentle pace, focusing on the internal landscapes of the main characters. But is peppered with scenes from a comic book that holds a prominent place in the story.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the "real" scenes. The female narrator is excellent. The Captain Cosmos scenes are not as good, maybe because the male narrator has an odd way of running sentences together without much break so I found myself not able to follow sometimes.
Which scene was your favorite?
The descriptions of the Nevada desert made me want to go there!

weeds meets stepford wives with a little absurdity
Revisado: 04-14-13
If you could sum up The Big Bang in three words, what would they be?
funny sad unexpected
Who was your favorite character and why?
this is a hard question because they are funny and well performed and quirky. so i liked that about them. but the underlying thread is a pretty dark and all of the characters have some pretty big "issues"
Which scene was your favorite?
i liked the end
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
both. but mostly laugh. it's somewhat nihilistic in places and rather absurd. but the romantic in me cried for a lack of soul.
Any additional comments?
great characters and good comic reading by this narrator. she nailed these suburban types

Historia
The collapse of America's credit markets in 2008 is quite possibly the biggest financial disaster in U.S. history. Confidence Game: How a Hedge Fund Manager Called Wall Street's Bluff is the story of Bill Ackman's six-year campaign to warn that the $2.5 trillion bond insurance business was a catastrophe waiting to happen. Branded a fraud by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times, and investigated by Eliot Spitzer and the Securities and Exchange Commission, Ackman later made his investors more than $1 billion when bond insurers kicked off the collapse of the credit markets.

well written and well narrated
Revisado: 04-14-13
What made the experience of listening to Confidence Game: How Hedge Fund Manager Bill Ackman Called Wall Street's Bluff the most enjoyable?
I keep seeing Ackman's name in the news and it's interesting to see how many of his predictions, even some that have come to light and resolved since the book was written, have shown to be true.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
Well it's written like a who-dunnit. It's non-fiction, but far from dry.
What about Caroline Shaffer’s performance did you like?
She's a really good narrator. Very clear and keeps the pace moving. She's reading a story that has mainly mail protagonists and very few females but she does a great job and keeps it honest.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. You've got to lean into it a bit. A lot of names and information to keep straight.

sweet romance with a little adventure
Revisado: 03-06-13
Where does The Veiled Web rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is a romance novel at its core. But more interesting than most. It's set in an exotic location and has an interesting conflict at the center. I was surprised that I didn't find it corny. Just sweet. Innocent in a way.
I listened to it with my wife who also found herself surprised by how much she enjoyed it. Really liked the narrator.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Veiled Web?
It mixes the romance with a little adventure and suspense that gives a nice balance and keeps you engaged. But basically it is a gentle story about gentle people.
Have you listened to any of Caroline Shaffer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. But I definitely will. I think she is one of the reasons we liked it so much. She kept it from being too corny. She has a lovely feminine voice but gave a wonderful depth to the male character.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Well the book isn't overly deep or complex. So when I found myself caring about the characters and wanting them to come together I think I was surprised. They wanted to be good people.
