Historia
Unpacking her belongings in her new hometown of Portland, Oregon, herbalist and reformed alchemist Zoe Faust can't help but notice she's picked up a stowaway. Dorian Robert-Houdin is a living, breathing three-and-half-foot gargoyle - not to mention a master of French cuisine - and he needs Zoe's expertise to decipher a centuries-old text. Zoe, who's trying to put her old life behind her, isn't so sure she wants to reopen her alchemical past... until the dead man on her porch leaves her no choice.

I love the idea of the story.
Revisado: 01-15-25
I was looking forward to it because it sounded so interesting, the story line. But listening to it a second time, I know why I did not continue with the series. I believe there is a great idea there but it could be so much more detailed and interesting. It’s a good listen when doing chores I guess.

Very gripping
Revisado: 09-16-20
I am glad, I listened to it - but it will haunt me for days to come due to the nature of it. I think it is a documentary that is important to hear, yet I most definitely would not let my kids listen to it ‘till they are mature enough to decide for themselves.

Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

Very captivating performance
Revisado: 05-13-19
Although the accent was in the beginning something I had to get used to, I did love the performance all in all and found it very captivating!
But the story itself was, although the start was very intriguing, so harsh and gruesome that I am not able to finish it.

Disturbing
Revisado: 09-06-16
Very interesting and riveting story, which made me listen to the end, although I really have to admit that often enough I found the rather detailed description of some scenes very disturbing. And at no point in time would I have foreseen the end of this story and am rather stunned still (just ended it ;))... Not to spoil it I will not comment on that further.

Great beginning and story idea
Revisado: 08-21-16
What made the experience of listening to The Eaton the most enjoyable?
I loved the narration and performance!!
Any additional comments?
I loved the beginning, the set up, the plot itself. But then, over the course of listening, I really had to push myself to finish the listening... it got very bloody and gruesome... I know that the gruesome is part of the story, but after that great beginning I was hoping for a continued run of the idea, and where it might take us...
Instead very soon you get an idea how it will end, what the only possible ending can be... There sure is a twist to the story, so I will leave it at that, so to not spoil it dor anyone, but - I was hoping for more after that great start.

Loved it
Revisado: 08-08-16
I had some trouble getting into the story... Most likely because the narration did not really grip me and a lot of times I had a hard time focusing on the story if I tried to listen while doing something that needed attention too (baking and such). But I love the voice and the way how Tamara Lovatt-Smith carries you through the story, she has a good voice and now - after listening to the whole story it will be hard for me to find a new book.
I love love love the story... I normally would rather listen to quite different stories but for some reason that title caught my eye and so I bought it.
And I did not regret it one minute. So many moments I (a mother and wife myself) can identify and connect with. It made me laught sometime, sometimes rather sad and a lot of times I though... "O boy, better check my attitude ;). I am not good or experienced with writing reviews (you never would probably guessed 😂), but what I want to say: I really can recommend this book and hope you will like it as much as I did!

Very capturing and interesting. I had a hard time stopping between for breaks ;), but have to admit that I found the end rather sudden. Which does not influence at all my all over impression of this audio book though - I am glad, I was able to listen to it, absolute awesome performance.

Revisado: 12-16-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I listen to a lot of audio books since I cannot read as much any more as I used to and I love reading and am stuck at home a lot. After a while its getting frustrating to find a book that is not only acceptable in its language for me but also in its rating.
I did not have any issues here with "Omens". Its wonderful narrated by Carine and Mozhan and with the changes in the narration very easy to follow and interesting enough, to not get to monotone.
The story itself had me in its grip right after the start - as much so, that I found myself just listening and not being able to do anything else, since it would distract me :).
