Historia
During the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, our financial infrastructure failed. Governments bailed out the very institutions that let the economy down. This episode spurred a serious rethink of our financial system. In DeFi and the Future of Finance, Campbell R. Harvey, Ashwin Ramachandran, and Joey Santoro introduce the new world of decentralized finance. The book argues that the current financial landscape is ripe for disruption and we are seeing, in real time, the reinvention of finance.

extremely hard to understand

This is a textbook and not for entry level.
Revisado: 02-10-22
Hard to review this. It is the first book I feel is not suited for audio format. Imagine listening to someone read a calculus textbook to you. Incredibly dense content full of acronyms. Performance is dry, but the content is dry. Suitable for a graduate seminar in DeFi, not Simone interested in learning about it.

Historia
We live our lives immersed in name-brand products. It's hard to drive down the street without seeing a plethora of chain restaurants, car dealerships, branded clothing; they're all around us. What most of us don't know is that the origins of many of the most well-known and beloved brands in the world are shrouded in controversy, drug use, and sometimes even addled with blatant racism. A Secret History of Brands cuts through the rumors and urban legends and paints a picture of the true dark history of famous brands.

Mostly a Deep historic dive into a few brand’s seedy past
Revisado: 01-31-22
A lot of history surrounding pre-world war 2 German companies and what they did during the war and their affiliation with the Nazi party. Then a few stories about US companies focusing on what can only be described as disturbed owners and their fringe views or deranged tendencies. I was hoping for less deep dive and more of the quirky interesting stories. Leading off with the history of Coca Cola was the best portion of the book.

Dubbed "CryptoDad" for his impassioned plea to Congress to acknowledge and respect cryptocurrencies as the inevitable product of a fast-growing technological wave and a free marketplace, Chris Giancarlo is considered one of "the most influential individuals in financial regulation." CryptoDad: The Fight for the Future of Money describes Giancarlo's own reckoning with the future of the global economy - at the intersection of markets, technology, and public policy - and lays out the fight for a Digital Dollar.

1/8 Crypto 7/8 commodities and swaps
Revisado: 01-18-22
If you are considering this book because of the title, be warned, it is NOT a book about crypto and the US Govt interaction with it. It is a biography that is heavy on names and acronyms AND his experience with crypto and the government regulations (30% of content). Still a good book and interesting look behind the regulatory curtain in the commodities and swaps markets. The last 20% was forward looking and very interesting. I listened to the first 2/3 at 1.7x speed hoping it would get to some real meat sooner than it did.

Jack Ryan, Jr., would do anything for Ding Chavez. That's why Jack is currently sitting in an open-air market in Israel, helping a CIA team with a simple job. It's a cushy assignment - a trip to Israel in exchange for a couple hours of easy work, but Jack could use the downtime after his last operation. Jack is here merely as an observer, but when he hastens to help a woman and her young son, he finds himself the target of trained killers. Alone and outgunned, Jack will have to use all his skills to protect the life of the child.

Too many ridiculous unfortunate events
Revisado: 07-01-21
I have listened to all the John Clark and Jack Ryan Sr and Jr books and this is the first one with just too much going wrong. Comical levels of mistakes and silly situations in the last 1/3 of the book. The first 2/3 were okay. If you are a fan you will still listen to it. But don’t pick this as your first Jack Ryan book.

Not one piece of useful information if you are already in a business
Revisado: 06-01-21
Good performance, some interesting stories. Not at all useful if you are running your own small business and we’re hoping to advance your knowledge or skill set. Not a bad listen if you have 14 hours and are just looking for some basic introductory information. However, the middle third is more psychology than business. It is accurate but not business knowledge building.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Already dated
Revisado: 01-01-16
What would have made Nolo's Crash Course in Small Business Basics better?
Unfortunately the content has become dated already. While the concepts hold true, the means and method recommended are suffering from the advancements in the Internet.
What could Richard Stim and Lisa Guerin have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Think about making it timeless instead of timely. A bit too much PR for othe NOLO products.
What didn’t you like about Richard Stim’s performance?
Performance was fine.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Content was fair but not really unique. It did a fair job of putting many concepts together into one compact recording.
