I liked the explanation of how scientific conclusions are reached, and I now feel much more secure in what treatments I feel are best for me.

Historia
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

The “background” music is overpowering
Revisado: 02-04-24
The author sounds like he is shouting this book, and sometimes he has to, so he is heard over music. The lessons are valuable, so I was willing to push through.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

A Great Listen!
Revisado: 09-16-23
Viola Davis speaks her truth, with her every skill, and delivered some of my truth in the mix. Some of this story is hard to hear, especially if you’ve endured domestic violence and abuse (of any kind). I had to take breaks, but I kept coming back, because I knew it was true.
Ms. Davis is a powerful teacher of self worth, and I hope every woman gets to see the beauty and value of her self, just being alive, just doing your best, because you are not alone.
Thank you, Ms. Davis.

Historia
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the Eastwood sisters - James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna - join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.

The narrator is excellent!
Revisado: 06-15-23
The writing is flowery, matching it’s time period, and takes a bit to get used to; quite worth the patience. I liked the characters and the story is moving. I felt the music was too heavily entwined(just at the beginning of each chapter), sometimes too loud to hear the reader well, but still worth waiting through.

Julia Whelan’s voice, the vivid descriptions, and the depth of the characters were all tuned perfectly. Like a symphony, or great theatre, I patiently savored every moment of this ride to the end. Excellent.

For every spiritual person…
Revisado: 03-11-23
Whether the reader is religious or spiritual, a believer or a scientist, Mr. Carter shares valuable insights from his own journey through skepticism and faith. I’m an atheist, with much religious training and a firm belief that there is no biblical god. Even so, I was touched by Mr. Carter’s love of humanity, and his strong belief that every person deserves love and respect. Thank you for service to the people of the world, Mr. Carter. Your love will carry on.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.
