It could be a drinking game. Chiaverini really really likes that word.
But, the stories are warm and charming.

Kathryn Markey is so very melodramatic.
Revisado: 04-02-25
The story is good. So, I kept listening but this narrator. LOL. Cringe.
Proof that narration is so very important. This book could have been a hit.
Case in point: Pachinko. It somehow got so popular, they re-did the narration. It's like a different book. (I returned the first one.)

Historia
In the ancient city of Nineveh, on the bank of the River Tigris, King Ashurbanipal of Mesopotamia, erudite but ruthless, built a great library that would crumble with the end of his reign. From its ruins, however, emerged a poem, the Epic of Gilgamesh, that would infuse the existence of two rivers and bind together three lives. In 1840 London, Arthur is born beside the stinking, sewage-filled River Thames. With an abusive, alcoholic father and a mentally ill mother, Arthur’s only chance of escaping destitution is his brilliant memory.

The reviews were so good. The idea of the novel, my favorite. But, after listening for nine chapters, I finally gave up.

Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

I couldn't stand the narration past Chapter 4. Why does she sound like she's yelling or something? Terrible.
The movie was very entertaining, which is why I purchased the book.

Historia
From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Though I'm usually a fan of Jenna Lamia's narrations, in this novel, she pronounced words wrong (valance, Leonidas, etc.). It was bizzare. Don't they edit?
Other than that, it was a pretty enjoyable novel.
I would not recommend if time is dear and you have to choose between several period novels set in this time.

Historia
By day, 17-year-old Jo Kuan works as a lady's maid for the cruel daughter of one of the wealthiest men in Atlanta. But by night, Jo moonlights as the pseudonymous author of a newspaper advice column for the genteel Southern lady, "Dear Miss Sweetie". When her column becomes wildly popular, she uses the power of the pen to address some of society's ills, but she's not prepared for the backlash that follows when her column challenges fixed ideas about race and gender.

Revisado: 02-07-22
Highly unlikely but surprisingly entertaining.
I've never been a fan of Ms. Zeller's narration: too dramatic--or something, I can never put my finger on it--throat-y, maybe. For this novel, set in Charleston, it was almost unbearable. Her southern accent sounded like she was channeling Mae West. Off-putting at best, cringey most of the time.
However, I enjoyed the fiction.
I would not recommend unless it was included in Prime.
