Historia
Five years ago, the human race became independent, as the Alphan Empire conceded it could no longer sustain its grip on Earth and withdrew, casting an unprepared humanity adrift on an interstellar sea of troubles. Since then, humanity has struggled mightily to secure its position in a galaxy full of hungry predators, many of whom see Earth as nothing more than a prize to be won. Now, one of the galaxy’s superpowers has set its sights on Earth, launching a covert campaign to weaken and isolate the human race before it moves in for the kill.

Title should be “Absolute Incompetence”
Revisado: 04-09-24
W/O spoilers this book has some of the absolute worst decision makers on the good guys side I have ever read about in a book.
The narrator is so boring I keep skipping ahead.
I also keep thinking this book was written with heavy dependence upon so called AI (generative text) it is so unlike the authors usual style.

Revisado: 03-27-24
The Auther uses Harvey Weinstein as the “villain”
It was unbelievable at best.
The plot would have been awesome if not for the last 20 chapters and an unbelievable action sequence.
So disappointed with action scenes that are so over the top it suspends my immersion into a good story.
Worth the credit but barely

Historia
We've come a long way in the forty years since the Shongairi attacked Earth, killed half its people, and then were driven away by an alliance of humans with the other sentient bipeds who inhabit our planet. We took the technology they left behind, and rapidly built ourselves into a starfaring civilization. Because we haven't got a moment to lose. Because it's clear that there are even more powerful, more hostile aliens out there, and Earth needs allies. But it also transpires that the Shongairi expedition that nearly destroyed our home planet ... wasn't an official one.

Historia
John Gotti was without a doubt the flashiest and most feared Mafioso in American history. He became the boss of the Gambino Crime Family in spectacular fashion—with the brazen and very public murder of Paul Castellano in front of Sparks Steakhouse in midtown Manhattan in 1985. Not one to stay below law enforcement’s radar, Gotti instead became the first celebrity crime boss. His penchant for eye-catching apparel earned him the nickname “The Dapper Don;” his ability to beat criminal charges led to another: “The Teflon Don.”

Corrupt prosecutors and Defendant
Revisado: 12-13-23
“First they came for Gotti and I said nothing because he is a murdering thug. Then they came for Jones then Trump now me”
What a difference ten years makes in perspective. Ten years ago I would have read this book and cheered on the dogged determination by Gleason to convict Gotti. Now I see it as unequivocally a confession of breathtaking violations of key Constitutional rights. I ask myself if it convicting Gotti was worth it. That answer is NO and it might be a bell weather event warning us of how out of control our Courts have become.
Here is what I mean the author Gleason prosecuting Gotti brags that yes his legal theory on the wire tape is illegal but Gotti is such a bad guy a little stomping on the USCON is called for in another instance he brags about being able to depend on the Judge to create the law and precedent even though there is none and his conduct has traditionally been illegal.
Gleason regularly uses a “ends justifies the means” approach to prosecuting instead of a quest for justice. He regularly bemoans being “personally attacked” by a man he is trying to lock in a cage for the rest of his life. What a coward.
The most serious violation of the USCON is obviously the amount of Jury tampering the Prosecution and Judge engage in during the last trial. This is in reference to Gleason using the questionable wire tap tapes to DQ Defendant attorneys he gets one to kinda flip.
Of course Gleason had to push ahead and I think institutionalize the tactic of disqualifying and to some extent wire tapping a defendants council. They used those wire tapped recordings to disqualify not only Gotti’s attorney (he was dumb) mostly for personally antagonistic reasons but other good attorneys that were a threat to Gleasons tape. Pretty sure Robert has mentioned on here that when an attorney is on a wire tape the tape is supposed to be stopped.
Lastly and for me most disturbing is the way the prosecutors and the judge conspired to keep the existence of Sammy the Bull flipping secret from the US AG for NY his boss and the POTUS representative because essentially he was a Republican.
For those of you that are not grasping/believing/skeptical of what @robertbarnes is talking about concerning Jack Smith being dumb this book is a great example of the arrogance of prosecutors.
I think it’s also on point with these people “being born on third base” and thinking they hit a triple. This prosecutor Gleason is exactly that just taking the biases of the system in favor of the system as necessary right and proper.
Here is what I mean the author Gleason prosecuting Gotti brags that yes his legal theory on the wire tap in a non targeted law abiding old lady citizen’s home is illegal but Gotti is such a bad guy a little stomping on the USCON is called for in another instance he brags about being able to depend on the Judge to create the law and precedent even though there is none and his conduct, piercing the attorney client relationship has traditionally been illegal unconstitutional and immoral.

The guy also praises Andrew Weissman
In conclusion reading/listening to this book now vs say ten years ago has made all the difference in the world. Ten years ago I would have ignored how the DOJ stomped all over the USCON to get an evil man behind bars.
Today with the Biden Administration prosecuting its political enemies, something we sanctioned Russia and Putin for I have a very different perspective.
I was repulsed by the immoral unconstitutional behavior of the prosecutors and the courts in this case it actually made me … sick is not the right word maybe disgusted with how far off course this country is from where it was not too long ago.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

So good I am buying the hardcover
Revisado: 09-17-23
Conspiracy Theorists is a term created by the Hoover’s FBI and the CIA to discredit dissenting voices.
Funny how a simple legal construct, conspiracy, can be used to spread lies and disinformation.
This is a case study on how our government reflexively covers for the politically favored and those that can help the powerful gain riches fame and even more power.
Any critical thinking person can see how the same type of corruption affected the Manson investigation and the deification of Floyd or Fauci to increase power.
This book is a way of examining our failures as a shining city on a hill and an indictment on the administrative state that will grab for ever increasing power.
Well done

Who wrote this James ……
Ok comparing the writing here with say the Spellmonger Series might be too big of a hurdle for Mr Narro but dang it’s vanilla. Also it’s a big turn-off when muscle bound societies act like it’s the 2023 culturally when reality is life was tough men and women didn’t have a dishwasher or John Deere so just eating took up most of the day.
Too close to woke for me and I mean absolutely despise coming of age stories written after a certain time. It takes a skillful disciplined author to raise a teenager in a book without making them out to be too dumb too week and too beta.
