Historia
In this exhilarating tale by New York Times bestselling and award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor, a disabled Nigerian American woman pens a wildly successful Sci-Fi novel, but as her fame rises, she loses control of the narrative—a surprisingly cutting, yet heartfelt drama about art and love, identity and connection, and, ultimately, what makes us human. This is a story unlike anything you’ve seen before.

I Didn't Want it To End!
Revisado: 04-30-25
This book is beautifully written and performed. I found myself gasping, groaning, laughing, and making facial expression throughout. Always sure of what was going to happen next, and shocked at what ACTUALLY happened. The realization at the end (which I won't give away) caused me to clap my hand over my mouth in surprise. This is one of those books that makes me wonder how a mind can be so intricate, so brilliant, that it could create a story like this. I'll be thinking about this for days and will likely listen to it again and again.

Historia
Jane has high hopes her life is about to turn around. After years of living precariously, she, her painter husband, Lenny, and their two kids have landed a stint as house sitters in a friend’s luxurious home high in the hills above Los Angeles, a gig that coincides magically with Jane’s sabbatical. If she can just finish her latest novel, Nusu Nusu, the centuries-spanning epic Lenny refers to as her “mulatto War and Peace,” she’ll have tenure and some semblance of stability and success within her grasp. But things don’t work out quite as hoped.

Danzy Senna Does it Again!
Revisado: 09-28-24
This novel was beautiful and agonizing. The main character is both pitiable and infuriatingly annoying in her terrible decision-making and inability to figure out who she is. And even though I knew it wouldn't happen, right up to the last sentence, I hoped for a happy ending...or at least for justice to be served.
The narration was excellent! I'll look for more books read by this voice actress.

I Should've Known Better
Revisado: 11-14-22
I am so irritated... with myself for purchasing a book that was 26 minutes long and expecting it to be useful. The only reason I'm not returning it for a credit refund is that I need it to stay in my library as a note to self to make better decisions. There are no shortcuts to excellence-- that's the only thing this book can teach you (by example).
Too long, didn't read?: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOOK!

Woooow!
Revisado: 12-15-21
I have read and listened to what must total thousands of books. This is the first one in 30 years that I'm going to devour again immediately after finishing. I'm only pausing to write this review (something else I rarely do).
I have enjoyed Will Smith as a rapper and actor. I was NOT prepared to respect him as an author. However, this book completely caught me off guard. By turns hilarious, shocking, revealing, and riveting, this memoir is difficult to put down and will be impossible to forget. It's filled not only with descriptions of Mr. Smith's childhood, rise to fame, and self discovery, but also tosses in useful nuggets the reader/listener can apply in their own life.
Don't even bother with the sample audio...just buy the book!!

Historia
Is school for your kids a resounding success? For most of us, education was an uncomfortable process of sitting in stifling classrooms, listening to tedious lectures, struggling over stressful exams, and feeling like we were wasting our time and energy. There were class clowns, ruthless bullies, teacher’s pets, popular kids, and students no one wanted to be around.

A Beautiful but Almost Buried Message
Revisado: 11-22-20
Please allow me to spare you from the author's staunchly conservative, self-righteous, holier than thou attitude to share the beautiful message she took too many chapters to get to: You can successfully homeschool your children! If you've decided that the traditional school system is not the best environment for your child(ren), let nothing dissuade you from doing whatever it takes to educate them appropriately. I almost didn't get to these important points because of Mrs. Sorbo's insistence on bashing anything not conservative and her condescending tone.
