Historia
America has been regarded as a grand experiment in self-government. While the Greeks and Romans had failed to achieve this in their day, both societies nevertheless rose above their contemporaries and soared to new heights. So, when it came time for the American founders to try their hand at statecraft, they naturally opted to fuse elements of Greek democracy and Roman republicanism together to forge a new and lasting, American, democratic-republic. It was long before this experiment was put to the test, when in 1861, a great “civil war” broke out. We’ve been taught to believe that ...

"People will realize a tyrant has taken hold."
Revisado: 01-22-25
"-It will be unveiled and the people will realize a tyrant has taken hold." - Sal Mayweather (Author)
The author masterfully crafts a novel considering the historical origins, practices, and malfeasances of the democratic/republican state starting from Greek and Roman times to spanning all USA history, and how throughout our history the state has upheld only the direct opposite. In detailing the ideology he exposes the hypocrisy and atrocities of America that will never be taught in our schools as we have become a tool of the state.
The virtual voice wasn't bad after awhile but some words were pronounced in an entirely different accent (He sounded African American), and the overall quality of the voice was subpar in comparison to other AI voices I've heard, He always takes excess time between sections, chapters, and even sentences but it's tolerable for the content.
It is dense and certainty requires a re-read after having learned and read more upon particular subjects in this book.

Historia
Americans have long been taught that events such as the notorious My Lai massacre were "isolated incidents" in the Vietnam War, carried out by a few "bad apples." However, as award-winning journalist and historian Nick Turse demonstrates in this pioneering investigation, violence against Vietnamese civilians was not at all exceptional. Rather, it was pervasive and systematic, the predictable consequence of official orders to "kill anything that moves."

Must read in regards to the US Vietnam War
Revisado: 01-21-25
The book mercilessly details the acts done by the US army in Vietnam based off of the policy and environment these draftees were forces, while the American populous was forcibly deafened and any whistleblowers silenced, trials terminated, or files hidden. This novel focuses on these actions and particular events, policies and practicalities around them over the political premise; every chapter is in regards to the results of the order given to our US soldiers about any and all Vietnamese, "Kill Anything That Moves."
There are a couple instances of mis-pronunciation and a MAJOR editing error halfway through. While the narrator isn't bad, the microphone quality must be tolerated, and may be outdated.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

While the first book was far more grounded, this novel endeavors subjects that I have never seen in a novel or movie or show. In the ways the first book 'suffered', this one has professionalized, and the pacing decisions instilled the want to continue it.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Represents mendetory ideas
Revisado: 01-07-25
The world in the novel has immense exaggerations of historical realities of the past; the protagonist goes through experiences that enunciate underground concepts regarding society when the government, politics, and media is forced to be in the supremecy's favor. Reminiscent of the CCP and it's people revolutions against it, or American imperialism towards foreign nations to cultivate a global surveillance and therefore supremecy. By fabricating a world exaggerating these elements, it induces a fear into the reader that further helps emphasize the core ideas of the book.

I believe I have faith.
Revisado: 12-26-24
I simply have faith further i get into the series it will click, otherwise only the interesting characters and landscapes, fights and marvelous cities, fascinating dialogue and certain plot points and twists that captivate me and leer me away from the confusion that's difficult to entirely, and precisely correlate by the time you've finished it. Ultimately, I was left with a faith both in myself and the series that we can, as I continue, 'work together' more so I can understand and comprehend that awesome scope this boke I've heard entails.
Great performance; he's slow, but that serves adequately as you can more precisely adjust the speed at which you'd like it to play (I did 1.6x - 1.9x).

Very fascinated by these existential and technological topics and ideas which're implemented into this story. The narrator Luke Daniels brings to life these characters more than if you'd just read the book physically. Very good entry to what I've heard is an intense trilogy by Chinese author Cixin Liu.

Blackshirts and Reds explores some of the big issues of our time: fascism, capitalism, communism, revolution, democracy, and ecology. These terms are often bandied about but seldom explored in the original and exciting way that has become Michael Parenti's trademark. Parenti shows how "rational fascism" renders service to capitalism, how corporate power undermines democracy, and how revolutions are a mass empowerment against the forces of exploitative privilege.

Why would man defile his own nest?
Revisado: 12-26-24
Great book when getting into learning about politics, particularly those emergent and continue now since the 19th and 20th centuries, and how these ideologies differ from one another, and when in practice how they alter societal structure and aspects of society and the economy. It especially focuses on Capitalism and Communism / Socialism as well as providing lore on early 20th century Fascism, and how it shaped it's society.
