It was really lovely to listen to a chapter a day. Yes, nothing she says is groundbreaking but most of what we need to hear isn’t. She articulates clearly the why and what of positive change. Worth a read/listen for sure.

One of my favorite in the “self help” genre. It was an easy listen and the book itself is organized well for stop and and start listening (if you’re someone like me who reads/listens to several books at once)

I really appreciated the author’s authentic voice in being both a therapist and patient. Great choice of narrator as she was engaging and fun to listen to.

Pro- Really enjoyed the content and pulling together of the previous concepts from other books. Definitely changed the way I look at things and will be approaching work going forward.

Con- Struggled to listen to the interview portion at the end of each chapter. Partly because it did not flow well but mostly because Dan Sullivan’s comments showed him to be of the baby boomer generation without much knowledge outside his scope. He made comments such as “only the very intelligent kids commit suicide” and “we all have a disability.”

I bought the paper version because I want to keep going back over and over with notes. Such an amazing resource not only for trauma but the life skills of resilience and sensory self regulation.

The narration was good. I really enjoyed the story of the author himself coming to terms with and learning how to be more present and happy. But the book felt a bit too long and tangential. He REALLY likes Harry Potter so it’s a little weird if you don’t because he uses quotes and references like it’s a bible. I don’t feel like my purchase was wasted but definitely won’t be listening again.

The book itself was informative, honest, and useful for both families and those who work wit folks with Autism. I wish I had read rather than listened though because the narrator sounded like a mechanical recording. I had to take breaks just because of that. But otherwise great!
