Historia
Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.

Not his best
Revisado: 09-11-24
Not my favorite clive novel but it had all the hallmarks. Pure imagination, skin crawling bits and sexual excesses. Shed more than one tear in the last 15 minutes or so. Well worth the time. This narrator is well suited to his novels and reads more than one of them if my memory serves correct.

Historia
Diary takes the form of a "coma diary" kept by one Misty Tracy Wilmot as her husband lies senseless in a hospital after a suicide attempt. It is a dark, hilarious, and poignant act of storytelling from America's favorite, most inventive nihilist.

I love this reading.
Revisado: 03-01-22
I’ve read this book but something made me want to revisit it. I’m glad I found the audiobook because it’s one of my favorites. Chuck’s books are always flawed but worth it. Are there holes in the story? Yes! Is the ending a bit of a head scratcher? Sure! Is the plot completely unbelievable - yep! But that’s not the point. There’s a really good rhythm to this book and it has a lot to say.

Historia
The visionary chemist Sidney Gottlieb was the CIA’s master magician and gentlehearted torturer - the agency’s “poisoner in chief.” As head of the MK-ULTRA mind control project, he directed brutal experiments at secret prisons on three continents. He made pills, powders, and potions that could kill or maim without a trace - including some intended for Fidel Castro and other foreign leaders. He paid prostitutes to lure clients to CIA-run bordellos, where they were secretly dosed with mind-altering drugs. His experiments spread LSD across the United States.

I had to return the book
Revisado: 02-11-22
I have a physical copy of this book and got the audio version for my work commute because this is an exciting read. Lots of stuff I already knew about but it’s packaged together well and I’m learning about a few new atrocities. Speaking of atrocities... this narrator. I hate to be mean because it takes time to record a whole book and I probably couldn’t do it. He over did it a bit, he could have done much less. Trying to drive while he slurred and shouted like a 1950s G-Man made ME feel like I was having an ARTICHOKE experience. If that was the intention this is a very artistic approach to audiobook. I had to return it and stick with paper.

Historia
On the moonlit evening of September 12, 1970, an ex-Harvard professor with a genius IQ studies a 12-foot high fence topped with barbed wire. A few months earlier, Dr. Timothy Leary, the High Priest of LSD, had been running a gleeful campaign for California governor against Ronald Reagan. Now, Leary is six months into a 10-year prison sentence for the crime of possessing two marijuana cigarettes. Aided by the radical Weather Underground, Leary's escape from prison is the counterculture's union of "dope and dynamite", aimed at sparking a revolution.

A very fun book!
Revisado: 07-18-21
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a fun ride showing many facets of people and organizations that are now historically significant. The narrator at first to me seemed robotic but I stuck with it and I’m glad I did because I ended up really liking it. He does a great Nixon.

I don’t usually like cast recordings
Revisado: 06-17-21
This is a very good audio book. I have listened to it twice. Usually full cast recordings are not my cup of tea but this one isn’t choppy or over the top. Perfectly suits the book.
