Another must read!!
Revisado: 02-01-24
The narrator was a natural and his understanding of the characters, places and time was evident and appropriate. I fell fully immersed in the story and was swept away by RLS’s writing. Would that I had read this as a young person…fantastic story and a bittersweet end.

Fiver could sense danger. Something terrible was going to happen to the warren; he felt sure of it. They had to leave immediately. So begins a long and perilous journey of survival for a small band of rabbits. As the rabbits skirt danger at every turn, we become acquainted with the band, its humorous characters, and its compelling culture, complete with its own folk history and mythos. Fiver’s vision finally leads them to Watership Down, an upland meadow. But here they face their most difficult challenges of all.

Captivating, even as an adult.
Revisado: 01-02-24
Capaldi is brilliant in his narration and brings each character to life in a way that one cannot help but visualize it as clearly as being in the story.
This being my first time reading the story, I am an unashamed adult who fully enjoyed every moment. A must-read for anyone…

Historia
Having inspired a classic film and Broadway play, The Caine Mutiny is Herman Wouk's boldly dramatic, brilliantly entertaining novel of life—and mutiny—on a Navy warship in the Pacific theater. It was immediately embraced upon its original publication as one of the first serious works of American fiction to grapple with the moral complexities and the human consequences of the Second World War. In the intervening half century, this gripping story has become a perennial favorite, selling millions throughout the world, and claiming the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

Captivating and engaging!
Revisado: 12-01-23
I can now understand why this is considered a classic. It’s brilliant, tense, funny, sad, thought-provoking and powerful. I have to say that I wish I had a book club in which to discuss it, as it’s chock full of provocative moments and intriguing characters…I wish it ended differently, but I’m not unhappy with the ending and that’s all I’ll say about that. A tremendously addictive read and a must for anyone who loves a well-written novel.
As for the narrator, he has a good comprehension of the story, the characters and general mood of each scene and delivered it very well. It was easy to listen to and each character was distinct without comical exaggeration of voice.

Historia
In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.

My goodness, what a bittersweet story!
Revisado: 12-25-18
I love how this is presented. It’s vivid, heartfelt and probably more real in word than any of my generation would know. I listened on Dec. 24th, 2018 and I can say it was one of the best 1:15 minutes I’ve spent on a Christmas Eve in a long time. Such a touching and hope-filled story told about one of the worst times in our history.

You know her voice. Now hear her story.
Audible has teamed up with Rolling Stone to produce an uncompromisingly honest Audible Original that honors the life and legacy of the incomparable Aretha Franklin. Aretha’s universal appeal was evident from the release of her first album at age 14 through her nearly 50 Top 40 hits. Yet this intimate biography reminds us that Aretha knew pain as much as she knew glory. It was the blues, residing deep within her soul, that gave way to a voice able to lift millions with a profound sense of freedom, self-worth, and undeniable talent to rise above sorrow.

It was illuminating but there’s several details that are left as unknown. It feels like the book’s 2nd half was completed in a hurry and stuff was just left out. Almost as if the writer started with enthusiasm, curiosity and interest and then became sullen, angry and resentful.
Still, a good read and an unsatisfied peek into the Queen of Soul’s life and legend.

Captivating, but PG-13
Revisado: 11-28-18
The story is told in a very NPR documentary style. There’s good humor and insights to Mark Twain’s life, but the language is not for children at times.
