This was a very well-thought-out book that not only explored the titular psychology of her take on time travel, but managed to throw in a bit of romance and a mystery at the same time. I appreciate that this was not a book focused on how they figured out time travel, but instead jumped to exploring its implications on the characters and maybe the world at large.

The book takes a bit of time to build up steam and the multi-POV story with events happening all over the timestream does call for additional focus. But the end result is a great story and wonderful narrative exploration.

I listened to the audiobook version of the title and the measured pace of narration was a great accompaniment to the story. Really great work done to bring the characters to life.

As someone who loved The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books, it was an easy decision to pick up this title when it went on sale. And while I can't say I'm the most intimately familiar with the setting and time period, I rather enjoyed the whole adventure with our novice detective tackling a series of case of varying severity. Definitely some great characters throughout and the main mysteries have just enough material around them that you might figure out some bits before the end.

Definitely a promising start.

I really enjoyed this story as a whole and it does make for a great audio collection. Tom Baker is a delight as always but he's joined by quite the robust cast and empowered by a most excellent story.

The three "serials" work decently on their own as independent story but they all work better together for sure. I guess it's something like how all the Discworld novels are standalone stories but you get a better idea of the progression of the characters when you read them (or in this case listen to them) all together.

A good exploration of less-familiar mythology

I'll concede that I'm in the group of people who haven't read a lot of Celtic mythology and I was eager to learn more about these stories somehow. I'm undecided if an audiobook was the best way to do this as the names are hard to keep up with. Then again, I don't think reading those same names won't be that much easier.

All that aside, the stories themselves are quite fascinating and totally different from the usual stories in other mythologies. Sure, things get a little grim and there's a lot of sacrifice involved and weird ways of expressing quantities of things. But they're all rich and compelling.

The book is also structured in a manner that groups similar stories together and it's interesting to see how different regions or even religions influenced stories.

The title of this book really drew me in. I was expecting something both scientific and maybe a little romantic (sort of like [book:Einstein’s Dreams|14376] maybe?)

Instead, it's a lot more straightforward and a lot of times more like a textbook. And it's not like neuroscience is bad or inherently boring or something. But the way things are presented here (which includes the delivery of the audiobook) and even the way things were organized felt less than coherent. By the end the book is a lot more about the neuroscience with the notion of connecting to the author's perspective of "time travel" rather forgotten.

It took me far longer to finish than I had anticipated.

This was a fun listening experience but maybe not quite as fun as Heroes whether that's because Fry was still getting into his stride or those stories just have a lot more room for creative interpretation. But as a whole, Fry's love for the Greek myths shines through even as he find a way to retell the stories in a more personal and impactful way that treads along the edge of more conventional speech without losing the spirit of each story.

I think the other thing I really love is how he explains how the names of individual gods have influences so many aspects of the English language. Fry highlights this time and time again and I super appreciate him doing so because it just rounds out the experience nicely.

A solid collection of robot stories and essays

While I feel that [book:Robot Dreams|24069681] is the stronger short story collection as a whole, this book probably has more robot-related stories versus the last compilation and the benefit of some great essays at the end of the book. But you can't really ignore the anthology since it contains key stories like "The Bicentennial Man" and essays like "Future Fantastic".

"Runaround" is a classic 3 laws logic puzzle but "Reason" stands out as a truly novel concept where robots somehow develop a religion. "Mirror Image" was a fun return to the characters of R. Daneel and and Elijah Baley. And then there's "Galley Slave", which is a great courtroom drama that even includes the likes of Susan Calvin.

Far more than just robot stories

Most of us know of Isaac Asimov's robot-related stories or his big Foundation series. But books like this are a reminder that there's a lot more to him than just robots - so much more. This collection of short stories is very rich one. It starts with a robot story as that is the natural expectation given the author and the title. But as you work your way through the chapters, you'll get great examples of Asimov's ability to write about so many different science fiction concepts - some now feeling more like predictions of what we're already experiencing as our present.

The audiobook is proficiently narrated but it isn't necessarily an exceptional or a particularly immersive manner of reading things. Still a solid audiobook, provided you have the time to invest in listening.

I wasn't sure if Miller was going to make a repeat of what she achieved with [book:Circe|35959740] in case if was some sort of fluke, thus I delayed getting into this book for some time. But now that I've finished listening to the audiobook on Audible, I kinda regret not getting into this title sooner.

She has managed to elevate the almost lyric narrative style she took with Circe into something else and the decision to use Patroclus as the POV character - even after he was "actively" involved in the story (if you get my drift) was a stroke of genius as it really gave us a unique (and more importantly human?) perspective to follow the story of this great Greek hero who is known for very particular aspects of his life.

This was a compelling book and beautifully brought to life as an audio experience. It's quite the investment of time to go through, but it's also totally worth it.

I only have vague memories of the movie that was created based on this book, I always get curious about how different the source material for any work can be. That led me to pick up this title and honestly enjoy the story as a whole. It's a pretty interesting story that either makes a high school election feel like the most important thing in the world or uses the election as a way to convey deeper truths and problems with its characters. You know that it aims to do both and I can't deny things entirely as it's a fun ride.

This audiobook also has some great voices reading the different POV characters and it goes a long way to making the listening experience even more fulfilling. It's not quite a full audio drama, but it's more than just one person trying to handle all the character voices on their own.

Pretty solid overall.
