It started as though it was written from an economic perspective, some interesting insights into the potential for XRP, but then it went completely off piste, very quickly. Discussing God, the colonization of the galaxy with XRP as the universal currency.

To testify against the Russian Interior Ministry officials involved in a conspiracy to steal $230 million in taxes. Magnitsky’s brutal killing has remained uninvestigated to this day. Red Notice is a searing exposé of the Russian authorities responsible for the murder, slicing deep into the heart of the Kremlin to uncover its sordid truths.

Fascinating Insight
Revisado: 02-04-25
Thoroughly enjoyed this, not knowing anything about the story before. Thinking I was listening to how hedge funds worked or failed in a foreign country, to then be presented with a story of a failed economy and the corrupt people that benefited from it and then on to the political system that abused its power to further that corruption and means they would use to hide it. Finally end with the sad events in a Russian prison to the satisfaction of exposing the whole thing to the world.

Historia
Our global economic system is broken. But we can replace the current picture of global upheaval, unsustainability, and uncertainty with one of an economy that works for all people, and the planet. First, we must eliminate rising income inequality within societies where productivity and wage growth has slowed. Second, we must reduce the dampening effect of monopoly market power wielded by large corporations on innovation and productivity gains. And finally, the short-sighted exploitation of natural resources that is corroding the environment must end.

Pointless Lacks Content
Revisado: 10-09-24
A book should be entertaining or educational. This is neither, it certainly isn’t entertaining and it provides no cited evidence or facts, it just lacks content. It also feels as though there is an underlying resentment of the US & UK with the continued referencing. The cross referencing of Covid 19 and climate change into sections of the book without any validation or citation to their relevance is distracting. Unfortunately I gave up and stopped listening, even if this was promoting an ideology or belief counter to my own and provided relevant information to substantiate those thoughts I would happily listen, however it didn’t.
In summary this felt pointless.

Historia
Michael Shellenberger has been fighting for a greener planet for decades. He helped save the world’s last unprotected redwoods. He co-created the predecessor to today’s Green New Deal. And he led a successful effort by climate scientists and activists to keep nuclear plants operating, preventing a spike of emissions. But in 2019, as some claimed "billions of people are going to die", contributing to rising anxiety, including among adolescents, Shellenberger decided that he needed to speak out to separate science from fiction.

A lot to think about
Revisado: 04-02-24
Overall the book introduces a lot of subject matter, provides a lot of references and discusses many topics, some directly related and others in a tangent that didn’t feel related. For me, whilst I enjoyed the content I can’t help but feel you can’t draw any conclusions from the book without following up on many of the references. Some topics were dealt with in a level of detail that probably doesn’t require any further research, however a large number of topics didn’t have the same detail but were supported by a constant stream of references. That may come across as vague or even misleading to some. Personally I feel it has opened up a huge amount of research/reading avenues for me, and not told me what I need to think, which is why I enjoyed it.

Historia
When it comes to climate change, the media, politicians, and other prominent voices have declared that "the science is settled." In reality, the long game of telephone from research to reports to the popular media is corrupted by misunderstanding and misinformation. Core questions - about the way the climate is responding to our influence, and what the impacts will be - remain largely unanswered. The climate is changing, but the why and how aren't as clear as you've probably been led to believe.

Informative, measured & balanced view
Revisado: 02-20-24
Very interesting. For me this presents a much bigger picture on the subject of climate change, its potential causes, our contribution, the selective use of information to support a given argument and through adaptation how we might learn to live with changing climates.
Another key element is the highlighting of the other factors in sustainability that the climate community often overlooks. The Brundtland report commissioned by the UN and published in 1987 identified the 3 pillars of sustainability; Social, Economic & Environmental. If these aren’t all addressed equally how do we expect to achieve true sustainability. Unsettled reaffirms this, the vast majority of people can’t afford to worry about the environment due to the economic and social limitations they live under.

Food for thought
Revisado: 08-07-23
The content is fascinating, Grahams constant questions and challenge to the academic norms continue to intrigue me. Taking information from different fields of thought, laying them side by side and looking for coincidence, eventually too many consequence create a question, equally when 2 academic theories are so far apart it creates a question. The time and diligence Graham has taken to ask all of these questions if admirable. Will always remain a fan of this thought provoking itch on academia’s back.
