Historia
When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama ("Rue" to her friends) is bequeathed an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female under similar circumstances would do: she christens it the Spotted Custard and floats off to India. Soon she stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves.

In Which Biffy Forgets He Is An English Dandy And Develops A Bad Spanish Accent
Revisado: 03-15-25
I enjoyed the story, although not as much as the other two series. The narrator should have taken a few minutes to learn the characters. The scenes with Biffy are impossible to listen to without vast irritation. Yes, he has a Spanish name. But he is an English dandy. I enjoyed this narrator for the Finishing School series but wish the one from Parasol Protectorate could have done this series. I would seriously donate money to re-record the Biffy scenes!

Historia
Rue and the crew of the Spotted Custard return from India with revelations that shake the foundations of England's scientific community. Queen Victoria is not amused, the vampires are tetchy, and something is wrong with the local werewolf pack. To top it all off, Rue's best friend, Primrose, keeps getting engaged to the most unacceptable military types. Rue has family problems as well. Her vampire father is angry, her werewolf father is crazy, and her obstreperous mother is both. Worst of all, Rue's beginning to suspect what they really are...is frightened.

It’s okay
Revisado: 10-15-22
This book is too focused on “Lessons with Quesnel” rather than an actual plot. Seems to me that these lessons are a personal choice that we do not need to see in detail. It could be going on behind the scenes with clever innuendo and such to better effect.
But by far the worst part is that no one bothered to inform Moira Quirk that Biffy is English! I do not understand why she was not told after butchering his accent in Prudence. It completely ruins a very emotion-laden scene to have Biffy sound like some mustache-twirling Spanish caricature instead of a quintessential English dandy. Try imagining him saying “What ho!” in this horrible accent. Surely there was enough time after Prudence was recorded to let the narrator know. I seriously would pay good money to have her re-record all Biffy scenes.

Poor narration
Revisado: 07-20-22
I love Dennis McKiernan, and it was a relief to be able to play this book at 1x speed, as for the Iron Tower trilogy I had to play it at 1.2x….due to….all…..the dramatic….pauses. So irritating. But then it quickly became apparent that this narrator never bothered to figure out who the characters are or how to pronounce their names. “Tuckerby” is not difficult, but he says Tuckbury. Seriously? Half the time he says Kian and the other half he says Kinan. The Bosky has an “o” in it - not a “u” - but he says Busky. How can someone with obvious voice training not be able to read the words as written? It’s like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Historia
History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

Not happy with the narration
Revisado: 11-25-21
I loved this book when I read it a few years back. I am not fond of the narration, however. It’s stilted and sounds like she is reading a textbook rather than a novel. She works too hard for precision and loses the conversational tone. The Irish accents are also odd. Scottish are so-so. I just finished listening to Shadowy Horses, which was outstanding, so maybe my expectations are too high.

Historia
Archaeologist Verity Grey has been drawn to the dark legends of the Scottish Borderlands in search of the truth buried in a rocky field by the sea. Her eccentric boss has spent his whole life searching for the resting place of the lost Ninth Roman Legion and is convinced he's finally found it - not because of any scientific evidence, but because a local boy has "seen" a Roman soldier walking in the fields, a ghostly sentinel who guards the bodies of his long-dead comrades.
