Historia
When Michael Lewis first met him, Sam Bankman-Fried was the world’s youngest billionaire and crypto’s Gatsby. CEOs, celebrities, and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side?

Michael Lewis Does It Again
Revisado: 10-30-23
Lewis has an uncanny taking the most boring sounding topics and finds the most fascinating and human stories within them. In this, he takes a paints of a gripping tale set in a world I have zero interest in (crypto) featuring characters I wouldn’t otherwise care about. But somehow it all comes together in a way that had me disappointed it was over. Also, I love Lewis’s voice. He reads with a certain joy that subtly conveys his own surprise at the invented unfolding as if he was just seeing it all for the first time. I highly recommend it.

Nobody ever looked at an empty calendar and said, "The best way to spend this time is by cramming it full of meetings!" or got to work in the morning and thought, Today I'll spend hours on Facebook! Yet that's exactly what we do. Why?

Great book. It gave me the idea and inspiration so I bought the book for reference.
Revisado: 02-19-23
Really good stuff. A LOT. The key takeaway for me was that it’s holistic. Each tip is fine on its own, but for real change, you need to create your own system of what does and doesn’t work for you. There’s no magic. There’s just a good plan and working at it over time. But it’s pretty intuitive to see which pieces i struggle with the most and which fixes should be my priority to implement. Then once those things are established, build a second layer of good habits. And so on. But even if I implement only a handful of the many ideas, I’ll be ahead of where I am now. I’d highly recommend this audiobook and the accompanying print or Kindle edition.

When Derek Sivers started CD Baby, he wasn’t planning on building a major business. He was a successful independent musician who just wanted to sell his CDs online. When no one would help him do it, he set out on his own and built an online store from scratch. He started in 1998 by helping his friends sell their CDs. In 2000, he hired his first employee. Eight years later, he sold CD Baby for $22 million. Sivers didn’t need a business plan, and neither do you.

Really good but he has a unique POV
Revisado: 01-26-22
I found some great insights and advice and a lot of stuff that makes sense for him but not for most people. I love the honesty about his mistakes and the transparency about his priorities. Overall, if you want to build a business that is focused on quality of life, get this book. If you’re trying to dominate the world, stick with the standard stuff about startups.

Even before the Beatles hit the big time, a myth was created. This version of the Beatles legend smoothed the rough edges and filled in the fault lines, and for more than forty years this manicured version of the Beatles story has sustained as truth, until now.

Finally, a good explanation for obesity
Revisado: 03-24-18
If you could sum up The Obesity Code in three words, what would they be?
This addresses obesity in a way that makes sense and you don’t have to ignore holes in the logic or theories that don’t jibe with your own experience and the experiences of people you know.
Did Brian Nishii do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Overall, he did a good job, but there were multiple things in this scientific text that he mispronounced. And many others that I don’t know for sure, but I suspect he’s mispronouncing.
Any additional comments?
I have been fasting 16 hours each day and haven’t had a Coke Zero in almost three week. I never thought I’d be able to fast, but it’s been surprisingly easy and I feel really good.

Historia
Are you happy? It may be the wrong question. Most of us think we are relatively happy, while at the same time knowing that we could be happier - maybe even a lot happier. Resisting Happiness is a deeply personal, disarmingly transparent look at why we sabotage our own happiness and what to do about it. Breaking through resistance, Kelly tells us, is essential to becoming the person that God created us to be. What is resistance? It's that sluggish feeling of not wanting to do something that you know is good for you.

BEWARE: Totally misleading. I’m getting a refund.
Revisado: 03-24-18
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This is not only misleading, it’s intentionally misleading. This book is ACTUALLY about the “God-shaped hole” in your heart or life or some BS. Yet nowhere in the book description or intro is there a single thing about it being Christian-based or even faith-based. He doesn’t even mention it in the book until you’re about 45 minutes in or so. It was such an abrupt turn, that I literally did a double-take in the car to make sure I was listening to the right book. Then I hit the rewind button a few times to see if I had zoned out and missed something important in the context. Nope. He just goes from self help to his literally quoting his daughter saying, “There’s no such thing as too much Jesus” in a flash. So I’m getting my money back. I just wish I could get my time back, too. Lying to people in order to sell Jesus isn’t something I think Jesus would do.
What do you think your next listen will be?
A book that is ACTUALLY about changing your habits and building self-confidence.
What didn’t you like about Matthew Kelly’s performance?
It was okay, I just can’t bring myself to say anything positive about this book for fear that others will make the same mistake I did.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Resisting Happiness?
All of it. Every damn word.
Any additional comments?
Rewrite the publisher’s description or take the book down. If I wasn’t a member and couldn’t get my credit/money back, I’d be furious.

Probably the worst audiobook I've ever listened to
Revisado: 08-21-16
It says virtually nothing and it does it in the most annoying way possible. It sounds like a 3rd grader wrote it and got an impressionist to read it as if he was a bad local news anchor from 1974. If it's free, turn it down.

Historia
There have been many books - on a large and small scale - about Steve Jobs, one of the most famous CEOs in history. But this book is different from all the others. Becoming Steve Jobs takes on and breaks down the existing myth and stereotypes about Steve Jobs. The conventional, one-dimensional view of Jobs is that he was half genius, half jerk from youth, an irascible and selfish leader who slighted friends and family alike.

Balanced and honest. I loved it.
Revisado: 09-13-15
Unlike some of the other pieces out there, in this Steve Jobs book you can really feel the authors making the effort to be honest, balanced and nuanced. They work very hard to get past the cartoonish oversimplifications that try to reduce a smart, complex man into a simple sound bite. I'd recommend it without reservation.

Another great book from Lewis.
Revisado: 07-18-14
What did you love best about Flash Boys?
Lewis somehow takes the dense, complicated and potentially boring details of a topic like flash trading and not only makes it understandable, he crafts it into a great story.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The storyline was exciting and the bigger questions it raises about our financial system are really compelling and important.
Any additional comments?
You just can't go wrong with books by Michael Lewis.

What made the experience of listening to Less Doing, More Living the most enjoyable?
It was short and straightforward. It didn't rehash the same point over and over the way some of these books do.
