Typical Rom-Com
Revisado: 10-01-24
As my first dive into romantic comedy books, this book was easy to imagine as a movie. Some of the plot points were predictable, while there was one surprise right at the end. It's hard for me to believe love stories, but Amy Hutchins' narration made me feel what Ellie was feeling and imagine life through her eyes. I would've preferred if the entire book was narrated by Amy, but understand the need for the male perspective. I'm not sure if I'll be picking up another rom-com any time soon, but this was a good step outside my comfort zone and an easy listen.

Historia
In the wake of death and betrayal, Vala flees the island of Garlin with Xavyn in search of the truth about her identity. To find the answers they seek, they must first cross The Divide - a mass of cloud and fog that has separated human lands from the rest of the world for hundreds of years. As they pass through what is meant to kill all who draw near, a surge of magic emerges, bringing death to some and more power to others. In turn, The Divide is weakened, the fog dissolving enough to reveal what lies beyond, reigniting thoughts of war between sides.

Expanded Map!
Revisado: 09-21-24
This book was all about adventure. We get to meet new characters, learn their backstories, and expand on the map we thought we knew. The Amelia Hugh’s narration in this book took it to the next level, as there were only a few returning characters and a whole bunch of new ones. It was so interesting to see where the story was going and to brainstorm what’s to come in book 3!

Historia
After the harrowing battle against Herja, Vala and Xavyn find themselves in a new battle against time. The war between lands quickly approaches should The Divide fall, but even that concern must wait while they engage in a more dire conflict with Verdandi. She must be stopped before finding the final piece needed to end the world. To stand any chance at defeating her, Vala and the others will have to add numbers to their charge, which includes negotiations with the incorrigible Volare king.

Perfect Conclusion
Revisado: 09-21-24
This was a great ending to a great book. It took our book club a few tries before we connected the dots of the trilogy’s the entire plot and it was a fun adventure along the way! The narration continued to be fantastic and the author did well to continue developing the characters while concluding the story perfectly.

High Fantasy Wonder
Revisado: 09-21-24
This high fantasy book was new for me. It took me a few listens to really build the world in my mind, but once I did, it was easy to visualize what things looked like and the importance of the author’s descriptors. Amelia Hugh did very well at differentiating the characters in her narration. Her emotions were easy to feel through my headphones and she really brought the story to life!

First Sci-Fi Adventure
Revisado: 07-16-24
I enjoyed this book so much! It was my first journey into a space opera and I’m excited for books 2 & 3! The character descriptions provided just enough info that left room for my imagination to fill in the blanks and the story itself had me reaching to turn the page early! I started with the ebook version and picked up the audiobook half-way through. I highly encourage checking out both versions, but Amy Hutchins' audiobook narration will transport you directly into space with the characters! Even if you think sci-fi, space travel, or gene splicing isn’t for you, give this book a try. You’ll be glad you did and will be eagerly waiting for the next book like the rest of us!

This book was fantastic. It was my first read from this author and she wrote it brilliantly. I didn’t want to stop reading and listening. I had the kindle version and audiobook. I loved Amelia Hugh’s narration. She made me feel connected to the characters instantly. Highly recommend if you want to be taken on a journey, unsure of what will come next!

Excited for Book 2!
Revisado: 07-16-24
I enjoyed listening to and reading this book! The description caught my attention, because who doesn’t love a story about a girl who has no idea the power she actually holds, right?! Our book club chose this trilogy for July and August and we were left wondering where the book would go by the half-way point. We connected some themes to popular fantasy books/shows, like Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, but only as inspiration for the story, not major plot points. The narration by Amelia Hugh was fantastic and had me feeling like I was in the story with the main characters. Her narration had me suspicious at the right times and wondering what would come next at others. I’m excited to continue this journey with book two this week!

Fantastic Narration!
Revisado: 07-02-24
I thought Amelia Hugh did a fabulous job telling this story. She made the tense moments even more tense with her delivery, made the sad moments feel like I was feeling exactly what the characters were feeling, and had me itching to get to the next chapter. There was a lot of science jargon at the beginning and end, but she made it digestible through her calm and succinct delivery.
I had a few issues with the story itself, but those were curbed by the dynamic performance of the narrator.
