Historia
George MacDonald was one of the beloved storytellers of the Victorian era. He wrote for children and adults to point to the reality beyond what we see on earth. Sometimes he used fairy tales, and other times he used realistic fiction. His most popular fantasies were for children and include The Princess and the Goblin, The Princess and Curdie, At the Back of the North Wind, The Wise Woman, The Light Princess, and dozens of short fairy tales. He also edited and wrote for the Good Words for the Young magazine. C.S. Lewis first discovered what he called “goodness” in a story by MacDonald, ...

Beautifully life
Revisado: 04-25-25
I have loved the works of McDonald for years, but never knew much about his life until recently. This biography was well told, moving, inspiring, and impactful.
Through this story, I am inspired and empowered to be a better husband, better, father, and better community member, as well as better at recognizing how much I’m loved by God.
I was also surprised by how good the automated narration was.

Historia
In January 2019, culture writer Anne Helen Petersen set the internet on fire with her viral BuzzFeed essay diagnosing “millennial burnout” - a chronic state of stress and exhaustion that’s become a “base temperature” for young people today. Now, she continues this generation-defining conversation in a brand-new format, interviewing millennials around the country about their own deeply personal experiences with burnout, and the culture that creates it.

Not the burnout generation - by a millennial
Revisado: 11-04-19
I was disappointed to realize that what attempted to be a peek behind the curtains at some of the real-life problems of the (currently) most criticized generation was neither substantial nor persuading. Burnout is real. Neither the reality nor the causes of burnout described in this piece, however, are remotely unique to the millennial generation. If anything, they are less prevalent.
There was a decent description of some of the ways this generation is misunderstood and mislabeled. But then it was followed by problems everyone faces. Difficulties with debt, finding work, and achieving a good work-life balance? These are anything but millennial problems. I think burnout is a thing - but I don't think the true causes or solutions are even touched on here.
Do I believe millennials often struggle? Yes. Have real problems? Yes. Work hard? Yes. Unfortunately, the examples here being lamented as millennial problems only adds to the perception that this is a whining generation. The story of the military man and his journey through recovery was very encouraging and inspiring. Everything else just felt like fluff. One whole story was basically: I used to struggle with burnout , then I worked my butt off so much that I made it and am now a CEO. This is anything but helpful for people who are really experiencing burnout.
The good thing about this piece is to help realize you aren't alone in your experiences. Other than that, it's fairly shallow.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Beautiful and inspiring
Revisado: 03-16-19
Beautiful and inspiring performance of a rich classic. Ms. Pike rises to every occasion in portraying the civility, sass, and condescension that is so endearing in this work. Although Mark Twain surely turns over in his grave whenever someone says it, this truly is great literature. I myself am reminded of the power of a letter, and shall go compose one now, even if my writing is half as even as Mr. Darcy’s.

God glorifying, soul encouraging
Revisado: 12-28-17
John Piper's classic has been on my list for years, and I only just got to it. Had I read it earlier in life, my life might have been different. Piper's exposition of the Scriptures' focus on the joy of the Lord in our hearts is beautiful, encouraging, and peace-inducing. He show's how God's pleasure is for us to find our pleasure IN HIM. It is not selfish, it's based on the fact that God actually IS the source of life, joy, and peace, and that our happiness and effectiveness are not possible unless resting in Him. But don't take my word for it, dive in for yourself.
This book can be read straight through, or almost as a devotional. It could even be re-read continually for continuous encouragement. I am so glad I finally got to this one. The joy of the Lord will be my strength.
Note: The only complaint I had about this audiobook was the chapters. The Audible chapters do not line up at all with the chapters of the book, so it's hard to know where I am in the book.

Historia
Many of us stumbled into Jesus and discovered the one we'd been searching for all our lives, whether we knew it or not. He told us everything was going to be alright. He was a best friend who whispered that he loved us to the exact extent his father loved him. He saw everything we did yet refused to condemn us ever. He was an incredibly powerful and supernatural God who could actually change the outcome of our horror into beauty. Then enter shame, time, failure, disappointment, and bad teaching.

Profound truth, compelling message, unique format.
Revisado: 11-30-16
What did you love best about On My Worst Day?
On My Worst Day is God's transformational truth of the good news of Grace spoken into the life of a master story teller. The format is autobiographical with meditations on the heart of God throughout the life of John Lynch. And it's read by John Lynch! Lynch is not only a master story-teller, but a humble, graceful, and beautiful narrator in this wonderful work. You can listen to it in one long setting and be blessed. You can take each story at the beginning or end of your day and be blessed. I meet with a group of men and we listen to one very short story, and discuss the truths after. John doesn't hold back the agony and beauty of his redeemed life.

Historia
The Cure gives the diagnosis of this century's religious obsession with sin-management. It has poisoned the Church, obscuring the Original Good News and sending millions away-wounded, angry and cynical, from nearly any organized expression of faith. The Cure offers an authentic experience in Christ that frees some from a self-rewarded righteousness, and others from a beaten down striving for a righteousness they can never seem to attain.

I love the content... Life changing.
Revisado: 11-30-16
What did you love best about The Cure: What If God Isn't Who You Think He Is and Neither Are You??
This book has life-changing truths that will absolutely rock your world, IF YOU LIVE THEM. John, Bruce, and Bill take the first chapter of TrueFaced and expand on the metaphor of the two paths and it is illuminating, challenging, and beautiful.
What didn’t you like about Brooke P. Anderson’s performance?
The reader was not the right choice for this work. This book is full of profound truth that must be digested, and therefore must be communicated with proper inflection and timing and gentleness. The reader was very staccato, nasally, too fast, and didn't inflect right. Every time I turned the book on, I had to get to a point where I could get past the performance so could actually absorb some of the content. Sentences that needed a slow ending and long pause afterward were rushed and merged with the next sentence so that I had to rewind and pause just to grasp the truth that was written. Nothing against the reader herself, this book just needed a different performance.
Any additional comments?
This material is fantastic. Please read it, and do so with an open heart. Allow God to speak to you through it. If this performance is your only access to the material, don't let that stop you from getting it. See past the performance and absorb the truth. Your life will be changed for the better!
