Worst Nora Robert's Book Ever
Revisado: 04-21-25
Qualifier: I haven't read her books in some time and this one sounded like a good one. Had just finished The Witness and enjoyed it.
Wow, this one was soooo predictable and OTT with soooo much description unnecessary to the plot. The FMC wasn't the sharpest. Really disappointed in NR. Disjointed and not well done. I'm a Texan and used to various twangy speech patterns but I was cringing as I listened to the narration. HATED the child voice.
And as a woman who has experienced marital abuse from a master, you don't need a *friend* doubling down with more of the same. I wanted to reach into the book and strangle Emma Kate. Yes, she was such a friend. "Don't tell me", she says repeatedly to Shelby as she berates her.
The romance just wasn't there for me either.
All in all, a waste of time and money.

Lady Philippa Marbury is...odd. The brilliant, bespectacled daughter of a double marquess cares more for books than balls, for science than the season, and for laboratories than love. She's looking forward to marrying her simple fiancé and living out her days quietly with her dogs and her scientific experiments. But before that, Pippa has two weeks to experience all the rest - 14 days to research the exciting parts of life. It's not much time, and to do it right she needs a guide familiar with London's darker corners.

Rosalyn Landor = Excellent
Revisado: 04-09-25
The narration was terrific as always with Rosalyn. However, the story did drag on and on and on. Not a fan of instalove scenarios and the whole thing about Jaspar's brother and the parents was not well developed. Too many missed opportunities for character development. I didn't love this one. I will try the book about Temple because it did win a RITA. Not sure if that's a recommendation though.

In a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis, two once-inseparable sisters find themselves at odds. One, Kacey, lives on the streets in the vise of addiction. The other, Mickey, walks those same blocks on her police beat. They don't speak anymore, but Mickey never stops worrying about her sibling. Then Kacey disappears, suddenly, at the same time that a mysterious string of murders begins in Mickey's district, and Mickey becomes dangerously obsessed with finding the culprit - and her sister - before it's too late.

Engaging
Revisado: 03-01-25
Interesting writing style. Characters developed incrementally. Hard to put away. However, as the story progressed, the FMC became a bit hard to buy. Annoying really. Spoiler alert: Her sister, Kacey, blames her for taking over the care of Thomas. In fact, the whole extended family blames Mickey for 'taking' the child. I am wondering- where were these hateful people when a drug addicted baby was born?
I thought I would love this book but found it mostly unfulfilling. The serial killer angle wasn't as developed as it needed to be either. Just disappointing.

Revisado: 02-16-25
I had hoped that the book would be better. It will definitely be the last one of this author I bother with. I hate reading a historical fiction with anachronistic allusions. The story line might have been good but it fell apart quickly. Why did Sarah believe Peter was a murderer when the police clearly didn't? Who would have wanted his wife dead? The whole story just got dumber and dumber. I was so disappointed in the book. Just a waste of time. So mad that I wasted money on this.

Even before the night her childhood shattered, she was never normal. Her mind can process people and situations at lightning speed, she has the ability to recall anything she sees or hears with perfect clarity, and she can separate from herself if she needs to—making her difficult to torture, to intimidate. In summary, she is the perfect mercenary. A life in the shadows where she can stay in darkness is fine by her. That is until he tries to pull her into the light.

ANNOYING HEROINE
Revisado: 02-05-25
As noted, Lucy is just beyond the pale. Her neurodivergent behavior didn't deliver the best romantic moments. Found it difficult to understand the reason why the MMC would fall in love with her. The constant Raynaud's reminders finally got to me. Couldn't get it. Why would he find Lucy attractive with all the other stuff thrown in? Lucy just became incredibly annoying. DNF at 60%.
Save your time. Other books do a much better job with this topic.

Historia
In Regency London, a woman escapes from a burning warehouse only to realize she doesn't know her own identity. Although the locket around her neck bears the name Miranda, she has no recollection of her past. Nor does she know why two very different men want her - the devilishly handsome Scotsman, Ian MacVane, and Lord Lucas Chesney, the nobleman who claims to be her betrothed. In a race against time to discover who she is and which man she can trust, Miranda embarks on a soul-stirring journey that takes her from the dazzling salons of London to the craggy Highlands of Scotland.

Historia
Everybody loves Katie. With her bubbly personality, her beauty, her never-ending supply of care and support for her patients and friends, and her huge sense of fun, there's very little to dislike. Yes, she's a bit scatty, she tends not to sweat the small stuff (like an engine light on her dashboard—that is, until her Mini won't start anymore), and she can talk the hind legs off a donkey, but none of that stops most people from thinking she's pretty damn adorable. Well, most people, other than Sam, that is.

A waste of time
Revisado: 01-08-25
I hated, hated, hated the ridiculous misuse of children's antics and the portrayal of a woman doctor as an idiot. While I have enjoyed some of this author's works, obviously this one totally missed the mark. I wanted to pull my hair out so many times whilst reading/listening to this twaddle. Finally, at 60% I gave up and skimmed to the end. I am still steaming at the wasted time and money.
Do yourself a favor and don't buy this. Beg, Borrow or Steal is worth the time.

Historia
The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she’s an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs. Honestly, it’s a pretty sweet gig—until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down.

Over the top narration
Revisado: 01-05-25
Unfortunately, listening to this story was too difficult. The narrator came off as florid and melodramatic. Ruined the listening experience.
I am reading the book now but again, wish the author had a better grasp of character development. So boring and I'm slogging through the beginning.
Hope it gets better or it will be DNF for me.
