Historia
It’s been an enjoyable and murder-free time for Judith, Suzie and Becks since the events of last year. The most exciting thing on the horizon is the upcoming wedding of Marlow grandee, Sir Peter Bailey, to his nurse, Jenny Page. Sir Peter is having a party at his grand mansion on the river Thames the day before the wedding, and Judith and Co. are looking forward to a bit of free champagne. But during the soiree, there’s a crash from inside the house, and when the Marlow Murder Club rush to investigate, they are shocked to find the groom-to-be crushed to death in his study.

Liked better than the first book Characters developed and “happy” resolution was just fine even with the tidy bow.

Historia
In June of 1860 three-year-old Saville Kent was found at the bottom of an outdoor privy with his throat slit. The crime horrified all England and led to a national obsession with detection. At the time, the detective was a relatively new invention; there were only eight detectives in all of England and rarely were they called out of London, but this crime was so shocking that Scotland Yard sent its best man to investigate, Inspector Jonathan Whicher.

I adored reading Pat Barker’s trilogy on WW I and this book is such an important story. I’d say, very good, not excellent. Multiple voices for listening is OK, but not my favorite. Quality of description excellent — which brings me to the question, “Why did the US not enter the war to help Britain?”

This is not an easy listen for many reasons and it is probably too long.
The story of the Spanish civil war and the tumult under Franco is stark, particularly since it is cloaked in mysticism or dream states. The harsh scenes are tough but the description and language are exceptional. (Even in translation). I might choose to read this in print.

Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

This is as tell a story not enliven a tale. I did not feel in the scenes except the initial murder and Bataan true structure had potential but the execution was tepid and boring.

Eastern Europe has long been thought of as the "Other Europe", a region rife with political upheaval, shifting national borders, an astonishing variety of ethnic diversity, and relative isolation from the centers of power in the West. It has also been, and continues to be, pivotal in the course of world events. A History of Eastern Europe offers a sweeping 1,000-year tour with a particular focus on the region's modern history.

I bought this based on the 4.3 ratings and wanted to start at the beginning of Dugoni's series. I listen to and read many mysteries and this is one of the worst I have encountered. It was predictable, slow, and full of cliches. The only value was it did get me to sleep.

Odd
Revisado: 03-17-18
Strangest approach for discussion of God and faith. At the end, it was neither a good mystery nor a good philosophical discussion. I nearly did not complete the book because of the repetition of "and then I told him everything. . ." I considered author's craft mediocre at the end. There were moments of decent writing, but those were swamped by the rest.
