Historia
When Cassie Klein goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school’s Family Weekend, she isn’t looking for a hookup—it just happens. Buying a drink for a stranger turns into what should be an uncomplicated, amazing one-night stand. But then the next morning rolls around and her friend drags her along to meet her mom—the hot, older woman Cassie slept with. What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. But is being honest about it worth the cost?

Sweet, Simple, Bland
Revisado: 12-10-24
I would call this a "cute" read. The plot was flimsy and very predictable. I knew what was going to happen next the whole way through. Some of the dialogue was funny, and the story was sweet, but overall, it was just bare and filled with tropes.

Climate Change Novel for the Age!
Revisado: 12-10-24
This novel explores the idea that has crossed many women's minds at some point or another, "what if there was a society with no men?" Set in a dystopian universe where climate change has forced people to look for new answers and solutions to old problems. There were lots of twists and turns throughout the plot that kept me engaged. I took off one star because the last few chapters were rushed, and too much character development was crammed into the end. I still highly recommend it!

In a parched Southern California of the near future, Luz, once the poster child for the country's conservation movement, and Ray, an army deserter turned surfer, are squatting in a starlet's abandoned mansion. Most "Mojavs", prevented by armed vigilantes from freely crossing borders to lusher regions, have allowed themselves to be evacuated to encampments in the east. Holdouts like Ray and Luz subsist on rationed cola and water and whatever they can loot, scavenge, and improvise.

Worst Ending Ever
Revisado: 12-10-24
Normally, I’m all about a good dystopian read—bring on the chaos and societal collapse! But this book? Absolutely zero charm. The characters had no redeemable qualities, and not in the “let’s ponder the human condition” way. Sure, there were plot twists—but they didn’t quite fit the ride, leaving me dizzy and disinterested. And an ending that left me completely dissatisfied.

On Christmas Eve in 1985, a hunter found a young boy's body along an icy corn field in Nebraska. The residents of Chester, Nebraska buried him as "Little Boy Blue", unclaimed and unidentified - until a phone call from Ohio two years later led authorities to Eli Stutzman, the boy's father. Gregg Olsen's Abandoned Prayers is an incredible true story of murder and Amish secrets.

The Secret Life of the Amish
Revisado: 12-10-24
This book offers everything a true crime junkie could want, but be warned, this book is not easy to get through. The details of this case will shock you and might leave you questioning humanity at large. The ends to which one former Amish man would go to live the life he wanted were not to be seen. The author is very talented, and I appreciated his focus on the victims and their stories. If you do not mind being upset and entertained simultaneously, this book is for you.

When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Dystopian Future and Past!
Revisado: 12-10-24
This novel provides insight into the fears experienced by people in 1932, particularly regarding technology and the progressive societal changes that were redefining nearly every aspect of their lives. I removed one star from my rating because I really dislike chanting.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

A Historical Fiction Must-Read!
Revisado: 12-10-24
This is a beautifully told story about two sisters struggling to survive in Nazi-occupied France. The character development is the best feature of this novel. The plot keeps you engaged, and the characters and their relationships evolve throughout the story. I removed one star because I felt that the first half included too many details that were not relevant. However, I truly adore this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Does Not Require a Chemistry Lesson to Enjoy!
Revisado: 12-10-24
The book features a remarkable cast of characters and presents a uniquely crafted narrative. While it delves into some darker themes, the writing ensures that readers don't feel hopeless or depressed. The only drawback noted was the predictability of certain plot elements, leading to a one-star deduction in the overall rating. Despite this, the enjoyment of the story remained high, particularly the sections told from the perspective of the protagonist's dog, which added a special touch to the reading experience.

Historia
Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate; she works an easy job at a hip art gallery and lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance. But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

"Why Am I Even Reading This?" Olympics
Revisado: 12-10-24
I finally managed to slog through this story. Picture this: a privileged young woman decides that hibernating for a year sounds like a solid life choice—because who needs motivation or purpose, right? Her inner monologue is like a self-absorbed hamster wheel, spinning but getting nowhere. It's a curious feat to be both painfully unaware of oneself and obnoxiously self-loathing simultaneously. If there were a medal for lackluster plots, this one would take gold in the "Why Am I Even Reading This?" Olympics.

Not funny, still masterful!
Revisado: 08-20-24
This has to be one of the most difficult reviews I have ever written! I have to start by clearing up one misleading description of this book: "hilarious"... I am still waiting for this book to be hilarious! It was suspenseful, at times depressing, and all the stories were woven together masterfully, BUT I would not describe this as a funny read. If you like a complex family saga with deep and rich backstories that give loads of foreshadowing, then this is the book for you! Worth the time it took to get through, but not a chill read.

Alan’s Wit and Humor Sparkle
Revisado: 02-06-24
This memoir deftly tugged at my heartstrings while throwing in a plot twist so surprising that I nearly forgot it wasn’t a work of fiction. Alan’s wit and humor sparkle like confetti at a serious party, providing the perfect comic relief when the subject matter gets heavy. It’s a delightful, heartwarming read that feels like a hug, but one that sneaks in a punchline.
