Historia
The most trusted explainer of the most mind-boggling concepts pulls back the veil of mystery that has too long cloaked the most valuable building blocks of modern science. Sean Carroll, with his genius for making complex notions entertaining, presents in his uniquely lucid voice the fundamental ideas informing the modern physics of reality. In the tradition of the legendary Richard Feynman lectures presented sixty years ago, this book is an inspiring, dazzling introduction to a way of seeing that will resonate across cultural and generational boundaries for many years to come.

Historia
Something new entered our world in November 2022—the first general purpose AI that could pass for a human and do the kinds of creative, innovative work that only humans could do previously. Wharton professor Ethan Mollick immediately understood what ChatGPT meant: after millions of years on our own, humans had developed a kind of co-intelligence that could augment, or even replace, human thinking. Through his writing, speaking, and teaching, Mollick has become one of the most prominent and provocative explainers of AI.

A Deep Dive into AI with Ethan Mollick
Revisado: 05-19-24
After hearing Ethan Mollick interviewed on both NY Times and MIT podcasts, I decided to dive into his book, “Co-Intelligence,” and I’m very glad I did. The book offers a fascinating look at how AI is reshaping various fields, narrated by Mollick himself, which adds a personal touch like you’re having a smart conversation with a friend. While it covers many aspects of AI, the chapter on education particularly resonated with me. It’s full of insightful ideas on how AI will transform learning, ushering in a future rich with possibilities. Following Mollick’s advice to use AI more in our daily lives, I collaborated with ChatGPT to help write this review. It’s a five-star must-read for anyone curious about AI’s expansive role in our future!

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Great story. Well worth considering what you would do if you were faced with this dilemma. The audio production is magnificent and takes advantage of the medium better than any audio book I have listened to. Well worth a listen.

Historia
What is autism: a lifelong disability or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth, it is both of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it. Wired reporter Steve Silberman unearths the secret history of autism, long suppressed by the same clinicians who became famous for discovering it, and finds surprising answers to the crucial question of why the number of diagnoses has soared in recent years.

Why do successful people get things done at the last minute? Why does poverty persist? Why do the lonely find it hard to make friends? These questions seem unconnected, yet Sendhil Mullainathan and Eldar Shafir show that they are all are examples of a mindset produced by scarcity. Drawing on cutting-edge research from behavioral science and economics, Mullainathan and Shafir show that scarcity creates a similar psychology for everyone struggling to manage with less than they need.

This was an enlightening book. My only complaint is that the authors suggested the most interesting question at the very end of the book. I hope they are researching a second book now.

The technology industry regularly invests billions of dollars into products that will never find mainstream consumer success. They fail because of one simple reason: poor marketing. The industry is leaving billions of dollars on the table because most companies don’t know how to turn their customers into brand evangelists.

Mostly Opinion
Revisado: 10-03-13
The author is very opinionated, but backs very few of his opinions with facts. He is also horribly repetitive which makes the book much, much, much longer than it needs to be.
I picked up a few useful ideas, but they were not worth the time invested listening to the rest of the book.

Great book: needs a different narrator.
Revisado: 03-21-13
Kelly McGonigal covers some of the same information I have read in other books on the brain, but her focus on willpower is practical and I found it useful.
I found the narration fine, but I do not understand why a man is reading a book written by a woman. This sort of thing should be relegated to medieval theater. I find it distracting.
