Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

Exquisite, painful and crystal clear
Revisado: 10-17-17
Spot on, bright and clear as a bell telling of young lives in the belly of the chaos that is our current world. Swimming through grief and slowly coming into herself as a strong voice for Justice, Star is a clarion, she is a real girl. Nothing is easy in this book. People are complicated. Paths are not straight. Characters take their time to reveal themselves. A masterfully told story. Immersive and perfectly narrated.

Historia
Tim Hetherington (1970-2011) was one of the world’s most distinguished and dedicated photojournalists, whose career was tragically cut short when he died in a mortar blast while covering the Libyan Civil War. Tim won many awards for his war reporting, and was nominated for an Academy Award for the critically acclaimed documentary Restrepo. Hetherington’s dedication to his career led him time after time into war zones, and unlike some other journalists, he did not pack up after the story had broken.

Had high hopes
Revisado: 07-08-17
A book that keeps you at arms length. Unfortunately alternates between stiff prose and high drama this book never succeeds in bringing you into to the life of it's great and worthy subject. The narrator is diligent but also stiff in his delivery and pauses before unfamiliar names which jolts the listener to attention repeatedly. A tragic loss to the creative and journalistic world but sadly not a highly successful testimonial to his life. Clearly the author is passionate and means well but the flaws in the execution are difficult to overcome.

Historia
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

A lovely story about an apocalyptic future

Wonderful expressive narration. Please give this narrator more opportunities outside of young adult fiction. She is masterful. I am not one for this genre in general. I purchased with a sale but I very much enjoyed the story and the welcoming and approachable narration. Listened nonstop for 2 days!

Good kick in the butt for any creative project.
Yanks away all of the excuses and blocks we build to keep ourselves from achieving what we set out to accomplish.
